New owner to a Fusion 2.5L and i am looking for the correct Motorcraft plug number

As a long time Ford owner I know that Fords like to have Motorcraft plugs, and from reading here a bit it seems the same with this engine too

Hi jamie. Welcome to the Ford Fusion Forum.  In addition to bangsters information, you can find the correct information for the correct plugs, filters, fluids etc in the Maintenance/Specifications section of your Owners Manual. If you do not have a copy, you can download the PDF version here: https://www.fleet.ford.com/partsandservice/owner-manuals/

I would definitely agree with the advice you have received and recommend replacing your plugs with Motorcraft.

I would also recommend you register on the Ford Owners website, where you can obtain loads of helpful information about your vehicle, and also download the PDF version there.

Good luck.

As long as the Fusion has been around, Ford has not included the part number for the spark plugs in the owners manual for some reason.

Older vehicles had it listed (like my 2000 Grand Marquis and my 97 Cougar and 97 Mark VIII), but nothing recent, maybe around 2006 or so.

parts.ford.com is the Motorcraft parts lookup page, Rockauto shows the same one, but I guess you can go to the parts counter of the dealership to confirm and get them.

jamie930,

I also consider myself a Ford guy.  I have used and would recommend Autolite sparkplugs for your 2012, 2.5L-4cyl - Gas, Fusion engine.  Autolites may be easier to locate than Motorcraft sparkplugs too.  I'd suggest Autolite #APP5364 sparkplugs for your car.  I also use them in my 2010, 2.5L-4cyl - GAS, Fusion.  The sparkplugs can be easily obtained from RockAuto.com.  About $3.50 each.

The Motorcraft SP530 Iridium plugs would only cost $10 more than the Autolite plugs for a set of 4. Autolite rates Iridium to be superior to Platinum (used in their SP530 plugs).

So I would feel more comfortable spending the extra $10 for Motorcraft Irifium plugs.

This is a subject that I am sure can be debated at length but that's my opinion on it.

I too am partial to the Autolite plugs, and the Iridium for this engine are $1.12 after rebate! Now that I don't have 3 V8s I can get enough plugs each year with the rebate. $4.12 with a $3 each rebate on RockAuto, beats $6.74 each for Motorcraft.

Okay- worth a try. Do you have the part number for the Autolite Iridium plugs for the 2.5?

I don't agree with the double platinum part number given above, (APP5364 is different heat range, different electrode style) for the 2.5 as I would use the APP5363 so Iridium version of it is XP5363.

XP5364 is what I put in my 3.5 powered Sport.

I ordered the XP5363 for my 2015 with the 2.5, that is what all parts pickers for all the auto parts stores and the autolite production selector shows as well.

Bangster,

As you know, the OP question pertained to a  2012 Fusion.  RockAuto's sparkplug information calls for the APP5364 for 2006-2012 2.5L Fords and the APP5363 for 2.5L 2010-2019 Fords; indicating both plugs for 2010 or 2012 Fords.  However, unless Autolite has made a change in the significance of their part numbers, typically odd number Autolite sparkplugs were NON-RESISTOR-type and even number sparkplugs were RESISTOR-type sparkplugs.

Back in the day, my personal experience lead me to use Autolite sparkplugs of a heat range one step above OEM in engines with noticable mileage or wear, with the hopes they'd not oil foul as quickly as OEM plugs in a tired engine.  I never really noticed any performance improvement from them.  However, when considering a street-driven vehicle equipped with a radio, I would always opt for the resistor-type sparkplug to reduce possible radio interference, which I could tell the difference on my radio; but sure, these were pre-90s vintage Fords.  I've been running the APP5364 plugs for over 80K miles in my 2010 2.5L Fusion without any noticable issues, including fuel mileage.  I cannot speak to any heat range differences.

It was only my suggestion to the OP to use them in his 2012 Fusion as well - based on RockAuto's sparkplug charts and my personal experience with my 2010 2.5L Fusion.  Yes, RockAuto's chart calls for the APP5363 sparkplug for a 2015 2.5L vehicle.  Sure, the upgrade to the Iridium version sparkplugs claim to last longer, but in my mind, a non-rebuilt, 8+ year old engine likely will have well over 150K miles and may or may not benefit from a sparkplug that lasts 4Xs longer than the OEM plugs....but as you point out, their cost difference is minimal and may not be a great concern.

As always, "your mileage may vary..."  Happy Motoring!

OEM plug by 2010 was iridium, which has a wear life of around 100-150k miles.

You can compare those two Autolite plugs and see the difference is the heat range (and in the double platinum the electrode style). I doubt you are going to find a non resistor plug for modern applications. The last number is the heat range, the lower the colder.

The 2006-2009 2.3 used the different electrode, but Ford no longer makes it and calls for the SP530 now. No place I checked for autolite part numbers show the 5364 2.5. They do for the 2.3, and 3.5, but not the 2.5. If you use the RockAuto more information to see the range, it doesn't specify anything else like what engine.

This is why I wouldn't ask for part numbers on a forum, even with all sorts of good information out there you will get variable personal preference that has no facts to back it up as fact.

Thanks for the help and advice.

I will be using the Motorcraft SP530 plugs as Amazon has them for under $7 each delivered. Under $30 for a set of plugs is a deal compared to $70-90 for a set for the Ford 5.4L

Rock Auto also has them for under $7 each and I have other suspension stuff to order so shipping isnt a problem.

I also like to order a bunch of light blubs from Rock Auto to have on hand instead of paying double at Wal Mart

  • 1 month later...

I'd go either Motorcraft of NGK. Been happy with both. Stay away from the Autolite XP spark plugs. I bought a set from rockauto for my fusion and when they came in the spark plugs were actually shorter in length than what was in the car. Idk if that how they are or if they were boxed wrong or what, but went through a whole hassle with rockauto and back and fourth with pictures etc and even after all that they still wanted to charge me to return them. Never again
