2011 Sport Magnaflow Exhaust

Whelp - I've installed a Magnaflow cat back exhaust system on my car. Getting a much deeper / throatier sound; especially driving around town at lower RPMs. It's a bit harder to hear, in the car, at WOT / redline due to engine noise... but I bet it sounds pretty good from behind. I'll have to do a couple of drive by vids or something. I don't have a traditional camera to mount to the car, so... my phone will have to do for now. I recorded a cold start and took a couple of pictures. I'm very happy!?

Sounds good! I know what you mean about the engine noise being much louder than the exhaust, especially stock. I can't get anyone to drive my car like I do to hear it.

I am not sure I am willing to drop the bucks for that exhaust but it probably wouldn't get me in trouble with the law but make it more obvious I am pushing my car to the limits. It would be nice to get some mods to increase the power a little, I would be after more drivability and a better noise though.

I actually have 2 Sports within a block of me, but both drivers would be better off with the I4, suspension clunking louder than the engine and exhaust at a snails pace that they drive, even when provoked.

You have many posts where you describe your driving as "spirited" or that you are "pushing the limits" of your vehicle and I am okay with that.

You have now lost all of my respect when you state that you abuse ("provoke") drivers that get in your way.

We don't need more reckless and abusive drivers.

Thank you! It definitely wont get you in trouble with the law... It's not that loud; but I can hear it now and that's all I really wanted. ?

I didn't buy it for power gains and don't think it's made any noticeable difference. Nor did I expect it to. I wouldn't say I'm pushing the car to any limits... To me, it's a simple exhaust sound / appearance upgrade. I love the new 4" diameter exhaust tips! They look awesome.

If you want to add to the effect, remove the resonator tube from the bottom of the air filter box. The engine intake noise becomes crazy at wot. I dropped a bolt down under the air intake box on my sport and had to remove it to get the bolt. I took the resonator off to make it easier to get back together. I've driven the car for a couple years and never had any problems without it. No water or excess dirt gets in the box.

Is that something you would want to do with the Sport airbox as the snorkle goes up to the top of the radiator support and not down to the fender well? I had mine out as I was trying to fix where it mounts to the radiator support, and I honestly don't remember what it looked like from below.

I made some videos... They are not the greatest quality - I was using my phone... But I recorded a video from a dig, and then a "drive by" as best I could...

Drive by with shift into second... the barking tires are unusual

I just ordered the Magnaflow exhaust for my car. I've been debating it since I bought my 2010 Sport last month, but with the Black Friday deal and no tax/free shipping, I saved almost $300.

I've owned performance cars all my life, and the stock exhaust was simply too quite for me. I thought about just buying the mufflers, but felt more comfortable getting the whole system as a complete unit.

I realize the power gains will be minimal, but I know for the price I paid, it's well worth the aural enjoyment I'll receive every time I drive it.

I also like the slightly larger exhaust tips which make it look more aggressive without being too big.

Just got the exhaust installed this morning and, aside from the deeper tone, its not very loud to me. In fact, I feel this is the way it should have sounded stock.

I haven't gotten a chance to go WOT, but I'm hoping it's louder when I do.

However, I am pleased with how much better the larger Magnaflow exhaust tips look over the factory ones.

Thanks, it is taking a little getting used to. I've got a 40 mile highway commute daily, so I had some time last night and this morning to assess it.

There seems to be a lot of drone present which I didn't expect from such a premium-priced system. The exhaust note is indeed deeper, but not necessarily clearer, if that makes sense.

Coming from cars with catless, long-tube headers, I can't help but feel the Fusion's converters and manifolds are suppressing a lot of the engine's natural exhaust note. Unfortunately, I feel hamstrung that there are no options for opening up the exhaust and letting the 3.5 Duratec really exhale.

Given the $1000+ I spent on the Magnaflow for the purchase and installation, if I had known it was going to be such a dissapointment, I would have simply kept the stock system.

Now, I'm also second-guessing myself on the Steeda CAI & Tune, wondering if I should just cut my losses and sell it before it gets installed?

Hi piratepress. Don't want to tell you what to do, only provide information. Sorry it did not meet your hopes. And I do understand what you mean by "deeper, but not necessarily clearer".

I specifically asked about drone because there are plenty of threads dealing with the highway speed drone issues that come with almost all aftermarket exhausts. Of the big three, Flowmaster being the worst, Magnaflow only a little better and Borla about the best as far as drone, but also the most expensive.

As far as the CAI? My opinion...Do it if you want to try and give yourself more engine "sound". Don't do it if you think it will give better performance. The Fusion already has a very effective factory CAI, as it draws cold air from the snorkel, as opposed to the hot engine compartment air that an aftermarket CAI will usually suck in.

The "tune"? Well, I will leave that to others, since I am not a big proponent. They seem to cause more issues than they are worth, since even many of those owners who say they like it will admit there is one issue or another, but they are willing to live with it.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Just an opinion here, but I would only put an exhaust system on an 8 cylinder engine, you just cant replicate that sound with a 4 or 6 cylinder.  I have a Borla cat back on my V8 truck, and it sounds absolutely amazing.  But when other forum members put a similar exhaust on their V6 (same as mine) truck, it doesn't even compare, it's not even in the same league.

Yeah, it really isn't very loud at all. Deeper tone, like you said, but that's about it. I'm happy that I can at least hear it now. The factory exhaust was completely silent, really. And I love the 4" tips.

I, too, thought it droned a bit when I first put it on... now I dont even notice it. I think if you really wanted to make it louder, you'd have to remove the catalytic converter or the resonator... If you want it loud, cut one or both of them out and run a straight pipe. I've searched YouTube and there are plenty of examples of these cars with the magnaflow exhaust + cut out resonators.

This one has a catback magnaflow exhaust and it sounds pretty good to me

I'm not trying to replicate the sound of a V8 with my V6 Fusion. A V6 will never sound like a V8. But that doesn't mean a V6 cant sound good with nice exhaust system. Porche 911s and 718s, E46 M3, Nissan 370z... hell even a new V6 Camaro with dual mode exhaust sounds great. Have you ever heard at Lotus Evora at wide open throttle? OMG they absolutely scream and sound amazing. Plenty of 4 cyl cars sound pretty good, too. Honda S2000 comes to mind. V8s sound great, but they are simply one flavor on the spectrum of engine sounds.

I wanted to report back that a lot of the original drone has mellowed and it's not as obtrusive now. However, I still feel compelled to maybe swap the resonator for a straight pipe in hopes of improving the sound.

Hi piratepress. You may want to give that more thought first. Removing the resonator/resonators will increase drone/noise.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
