Chip
My wife is a real lover of her Fusions and is upset with the prospect of her favorite sedan going away. With that in mind she asked me to look into buying a 2020 to replace her 2016 SE. Is there anyone else considering the same action? On my first look at the Ford Fusion "build & price" site it does not appear that much has changed in the last several model years except the prices. At least one exception is the material listed as used on the seating surfaces. Her present 2016 SE is leather while the material used on the 2020 (and perhaps prior SE models) is listed as cloth. She wants leather, but not the price requested for the upper trim level to get it. I see what Ford calls "Active X" as used on seating surfaces for the 2020 SEL trim level. Just what is this?
bangster
ActiveX is (p)leather. When/if the time comes for another car, probably gonna jump ship from Ford unless the used ones are not that old.
Beachview
I have been happy with the 2019 I bought. Everything works, no problems after 11 months. I did get leather. Probably some good pricing on new 2019s left on the lot. Just a thought.

Hi Chip. As I think you mentioned, leather seating surfaces are only available on the Titanium trim level for 2020. You can find some information on ActiveX material here: https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=activex+seating+material+vs+leather&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjk2rWd0qLnAhVrmXIEHbA9DzAQ1QIoAXoECAsQAg&biw=1920&bih=1005 Hope this information helps and good luck.

Waldo
All Ford has done to the Fusion over the last 4 years is cut costs. You'll likely be far happier keeping the 2016 and saving your money for something fun.
Chip
Not sure I could convince her of this Waldo. Here is a question for whoever might know, and is following this thread. AK? Is an X-Plan purchase available for a new 2019 and what sort of added discount might be available to a nicely reduced haggling starting price point for a 2019 SEL I have looked at. I am a stock holder so I can get a X plan PIN (and would take the time to do so) if it would knock a grand or so off the out the door price.

I tried to look up X plan on a 2019 SEL and it only shows a $2K rebate and a X plan cost of $28K but if you look at the dealer website they're selling it for $22K so there are a bunch of extra rebates and/or dealer cash available. Chances are you won't save anything with X plan since the dealers already have these discounted a lot and you get the same factory rebates either way.
Chip
That was what I was thinking, but was looking for some protection from these damn doc. fees that dealers charge. The dealer that has the 2019 I am looking at wants almost $600. for "Doc. Fees" I seemed to remember that in the X plan, the dealer was limited to what they charged the customer, and I thought that limit was well under $500. I might be wrong about this? Any thoughts?

But if they're $500 below X plan then it's the same price. X plan is limited to $100. You can always ask to see the X plan price just for comparison.
Chip
Does anyone know if the 2019 & 2020 MY's are affected by the issue covered by CSP 19B37?

My lease is ending on my 2017 Fusion (Platinum model). I love the car. I'm trying to decide between the 2020 Fusion Titanium (they don't have the Platinum anymore) or the new 2020 Escape.

FWIW: Over the past couple of weeks, we snooped at quite a few different cars to replace our old Grand Marquis LS Ultimate. I wandered into the local Ford Dealership hoping to see a well-equipped Sedan, but the showroom was loaded with pickups and SUV's. The salesperson steered me to a "All-New" 2020 Escape, since they had no sedans displayed, and the outdoor lot was snowed-over. It was a top-line Escape Titanium, and the dashboard had the "iPad" stuck in the middle... which made it an instant deal-breaker for me. I think it looks stupid. Ultimately, we decided on a 2019 Fusion Energie CPO pre-owned car.
