thatguydevin
Well, been searching high and low for a while about the potential in these motors and so far all I've read is that its a pointless project to turbo these engines. But I'd love to hear some real input on what is the real issue with turboing them, and where their real weaknesses are? Being an open deck block I'm sure that's one of the big setbacks, but if i remember right the ecoboost mustangs/subaru wrx's are open deck as well and make ok numbers when done right. I have my 07 down to a bare block right now, originally intended on a factory rebuild, but hey why not give the performance route a look right? I've found a company that makes forged pistons/rods for this engine, but a crankshaft is a hard miss so far. Does anyone know if the factory crank is heat treated or forged? More importantly, Does anyone know if the crank from a 2.3 ecoboost motor will fit as a substitute? I have a couple photos of the two cranks and they look similar, both have the gear for the balance shaft, but didn't know if anyone had specs on them. 166300_1__89149.1561180014.webp

thatguydevin
So much contradicting statements on the internet. Some say the ecoboost cranks are bolt in. Others say they arent even close. Thought about going with a ranger crank as they are heavier duty than factory fusion cranks. Also lighter weight since they do not have a balance shaft.
