Miastewie7
I have a 2006 ford fusion 3.0. When I turn the key it just clicks and I have to try it at least 5-10 times and eventually it will start. I was thinking it might be the ignition switch. Can someone tell me where exactly the ignition switch is? What else should I check. It has brand new battery and connections.
drolds1
The ignition switch is in the steering column. When you turn the key, you're rotating a shaft that rotates the shift itself. You have to remove the shroud around the column. This is a 2010 Escape, but you get the idea: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPiz8MfZ17Y
bangster
I would suspect the starter/solenoid or wiring connection to it before the ignition switch. I think that the starter is on top under the battery, and probably requires removing the battery and tray to get to it. I don't see a starter relay in the under hood fuse box (to try to swap).
Miastewie7
I replaced the ignition switch and it didnt fix the problem. I already have the starter out and was wondering if anybody recommends a place to take it too to have it tested. I'm not completely confident in autozone.
Jalexsy
I have a similar issue with my 2007. I thought it was the ignition switch too. It ended up being a poor negative battery connection. You said the battery and connections are new. Have you checked your grounds and for voltage drop at the negative terminal? Good luck
