Tyrell
While I was at the dealership having the turbo noise checked out, I asked if they had an approved intake valve cleaning service. The lady there said they offer a throttle body/intake valve/injection system cleaning service for $312. I asked to make sure it was for the direct injection Ecoboost cars, and she said yes. Has anyone tried this service yet? Any input? Edited February 10, 2020 by Tyrell Make more clear
drolds1
We've discussed this many times in the forums. Do a search. Don't do it. To date Ford has not approved any method for cleaning intake valves on EB engines. You risk damaging the turbo. That aside, $312 is an absurd price for this service. See this video.

I concurr with everything, except for the EB engine designation. EB designation refers to a Ford Falcon model. I think you were refering to Eco Boost.
Tyrell
Right, I read a lot of threads, watched videos already. That's why I asked the service department. I thought I was pretty clear to her that I was talking about my direct injected motor, with no fuel running over the intake valves. She responded Yes, this service... I've actually seen that video before. It's also 5 years old now, my question to the local Ford dealer service department is 3 days old. Not to say the dealer can't be mistaken...

The video may be 5 years old but AFAIK, ford still has no recommended method for cleaning the valves other than replacing the head. What method does your dealer use for their cleaning service? I'm curious as to what they're proposing for $312. Of course, it's your car and your choice. You asked for input. That's my .02.

I didn't think to ask what this service entails. I'll have to look into it. On another note, a friend from church is a tech for VW, and they walnut-blast the intake valves on their TDI vehicles. I wonder why Ford doesn't do it. Maybe they can't locate TDC for each piston and make sure the valves are closed....
