bmghog
So i did a trans swap, all hooked up and go to start the car and all i get is no crank. i do hear the fuel pump engage. i can jump the starter to start the car and it stays running but the car will not shift into gear unless i bypass the shift actuator (the brake light comes on so must the the other actuator) in the shit assembly how do you test it i have it apart? When i do this it will not go into any gear, no grind, clank nothing.... i am pretty sure the range selector on the trans is in the right position as the shifter moves through all the gears properly. the axles are in place as it will go into park - tested by jacking up one tire up and moving the tire, it locked up - did this on both sides to ensure the splines are seated. so three problems....why won't it start with the key, why won't it shift without pressing the actuator, and why won't it go into gear and move. 2.3 liter 5 sp prior to the swap is it would not go past 3rd gear and wrench light came on ....all else worked just fine, i did reset to tcm and it would shift through all the gears but as soon as i would downshift same issue started again. nanookvd
In most likelihood, nothing is wrong with the original transmission mechanically. I'd recommend purchasing a new/used TCM off of ebay and replacing it. I had been chasing a wrench light with a hard shift into reverse. Problem got worse and wouldn't shift past 3rd gear. I replaced the valve body, performed a full solenoid/continuity pinpoint test on the wiring to verify no shorts, and replaced the TCM to solve the problem Edited March 28, 2020 by nanookvd
