Gepp
Was informed yesterday that my 2018 fusion will essentially need a new engine at 15K miles. Anyone else looking at the same issue??

Anyone else looking at the same issue?? Hi Gepp. Welcome to the Ford Fusion Forum, but sorry to hear about your engine problems. As with any vehicle, it happens and you are not the only one. You should still be within the 3 year/36,000 mile Bumper to Bumper and 5 year/60,000 mile Powertrain warranties, so that is a good thing. Let us know how you make out and good luck.
NCEcoBoost
Gepp, there are threads about this in both the EcoBoost section and in the Recall section. In the latter, look at the thread titled 19b37 and in the EcoBoost section look at "Do misfire codes...". Related to "recall" 19b37, which we discussed to death in January and February. I believe that you're getting a new SHORT block, if this is the same issue. Keep us updated. Edited March 10, 2020 by NCEcoBoost
Diemaker
Yes my 2014 1.5 died at 42000 miles . Ford installed a new long block. My question is are the new blocks improved for coolant intrusion. mine was installed in May of 2019

Yes, the new SHORT blocks apparently solve the issue ('20 Fusions should have the new version when produced). I'm not enough of an engineer to understand what was replaced on yours, but since the "courtesy recall" was initiated in January (2020), yours might not have really fixed the problem at all. Maybe others will chime in. The majority of the problems are with '17s-'19s (they for sure get short blocks) and it's possible that '14s-'16s get a long block instead of a short block. (Starting with the '17s, design changes were made). Edited March 23, 2020 by NCEcoBoost
akirby
A block is a block and the problem is in the casting. Short/long refers to all the other components attached to the block.
Diemaker
I'm hoping that since my engine was replaced in May of 2019 it would have a updated block. My dealer was just starting to see all the 1.5s coming in with coolant intrusion problems in the summer of 2019. Maybe ford can answer when the updated blocks came into production. One would hope there is not 6 years of these bad engines out on the market!
ohsix
My 2019 with a build dated about 04/11/2019 had the PCM updated Early Jan 2020 I bought it new in Dec 2019 the car sat a long time at the dealer. So I guess my block is the Old Style?
scottjn
My 2017 Fusion 2.0L ecoboost had to get a new engine due to coolant intrusion earlier this year with ~ 30k mi. They did give me a rental, at least. PSA: anyone with these engines be sure to check your coolant level periodically and bring it in if it is low. That's how I discovered the engine issue in my car.

Anyone else looking at the same issue?? Had this done on my 2017 1.5eco. Issue I was informed of was the temp would rise drastically after ignition was turned off. They issued a customer satisfaction program to have ecm programmed to run for extended period of time after engine was shut off to keep temps down. Mine went in and they called to tell me #4 spark plug had welded itself to the head. They scheduled me for a new long block then they were able to remove spark plug and re-thread the head. So I got new block and all internal components $4000 worth at no charge! Took just over three weeks. My car had 60000+ miles so in this situation warranty is not necessary but no loaner car without a warranty! To resolve the temp issue they didn't use a different block installed same as factory but did the programming and now you can hear water pump run for about 2 minutes after ignition is turned off! Hope this helps!
