Hood strut install...

Gentlemen...

My "new" 2019 Fusion Energie has the factory hood prop rod to hold the hood opened... in Ford's usual cheap-ash way of outfitting their cars. But after several decades of driving more upscale vehicles like my Grand Marquis, I'm used to better stuff. That confounded head-knocking "straightened coat-hanger" might be okay for a Fiesta or a Focus, but it doesn't belong on a Fusion Titanium. The way it latches into the hood when it's holding up the hood (I guess that's a safety feature) is annoying when you're trying to deal with it in the dark (like at a gas station at night...) The lack of an under- hood blanket was also somewhat of a disappointment... even my 35 year-old Mustang has insulation under the hood... for vibration elimination, if not only for silence.

I've snooped around and come across a couple of different gas strut assemblies: one is from Steeda, the other from Redline Tuning. I'm marginally familiar with Redline's products from dealing with stuff for my Ranger.

Do you folks have any insight into either of these two products? Material quality? Integrity of design?

I've come across one YouTube installation video, where there were no holes to be drilled... the kit included some ball mounts to replace existing suspension bolts, and a pair of widgets to install a ball mount in the hood. Another other video used some brackets to be installed at the hood hinges for the ball mounts.

Are these two the only gas strut kits generally available? Is one superior to the other? Bot kits seemed to be priced a little over $100 on eBay and various car parts houses...  And I thought that Fusions used to have a blanket on the underside of the hood... was it eliminated as part of Ford's de-contenting of late? Can it be installed on my 2019?

How about some experienced input from the Fusion crowd?  ?

Thanks, Gentlemen!

Gentlemen...

This afternoon, the Red Line Hood Struts I ordered for my Fusion arrived. (Yes, I got tired of that idiot prop rod holding up my hood.)

It only took about 15 minutes to install the upgrade, and now my hood opens, and stays open by itself, the way I think it should.

I still have a few more upgrades to tweak the Fusion to the way I think it ought to be. I really wish there was a way to import that sweet creamy-looking white leather interior like the 2018 Platinum offered... mine is called "Ebony and Russett," but putting saccharinity aside, I call it "Black and Orange." The "Russett" seats are the same color as a basketball.
