Ace
Is it necessary to remove the 12 volt battery from the rear compartment to check and add water to it? I'm assuming it needs to be checked periodically as there is a water funnel attached to the inside of the compartment cover. I don't understand why the battery wouldn't have been installed so that the cover over the openings to the cells would have been in the front so the battery wouldn't have to be disconnected and removed to just check the water level in each cell. Am I missing something here or is this a 'Ford Better Idea'? This is in a 2017 Fusion Hybrid. Ron.

However, are you sure that funnel is not the gas funnel that is provided and used to put fuel in the tank from a gas can?
Waldo
You don't need to check the water level ever. It is maintenance-free.
drolds1
Quote Your vehicle is fitted with a Motorcraft maintenance-free battery which normally does not require additional water. Quote The fuel filler funnel is under the luggage compartment floor covering. This might be a good time to review your owners guide.
Ace
Thanks for the input. I believe you're correct that the funnel behind my battery access door is for fuel. I did review the owners guide concerning the battery question I had, but didn't think about looking for a fuel funnel. I would still prefer to be able to check the water level in each cell of the battery as my past experience with maintenance free batteries is that they do use water. Most of my batteries have had a 10 to 12 yr life, but I'm quite sure they wouldn't without having added water periodically. I'm not planning to have this car that long, so maybe the battery will last for as long as I need it to. Thanks again guys.
