2016 Fusion Sync 2 Navigation Upgrade

Recommended Posts

I’m looking at trying to upgrade my fusion to include gps navigation. I have Sync with MyFord touch version 3.08. Right now the top right quadrant says “Information”. What I am trying to figure out is if additional hardware is needed or if all I need is some software updates and the maps SD card.

It's all software and the map card.  But Ford has not made this software available for purchase, so any way you do it will be in violation of copywright laws.

called local dealership to see if I could get them to add navigation but they tell me if it didn’t come with it then it can’t be added. Is this true?

I just logged into my ford account and found out that I have access to software updates. I don’t know what the think ing was in the above statement about copyright

but ford tells you how to perform updates.

Hi Sanbadger. Your original question concerned adding navigation unit capability to a non-nav SYNC unit. That is what Waldo was referring to and he is correct.  The Dealer is also correct. If your vehicle did not come with NAV, they will not add it.

The SYNC updates you are now referring to on the Ford Owner website are simply available updates to the particular factory SYNC system in your vehicle. Everyone can do that. However, you can not update to add navigation capability through the Ford Owner website.

On a related note: There are third party/aftermarket ways to buy and replace the SYNC hardware in your vehicle and perform an upgrade to SYNC 3. That is all aftermarket and has been discussed here previously. If you do a site search, you can find the past discussions.  Or...Google "Adding SYNC 3 to 2016 Fusion".

Good luck.
