Help with codes

I have a 2011 Ford Fusion Sel 6 cyl 3.0 and have had the orange wrench light come on a few times the past couple of days.

I have gotten two error codes according to my bosses scanner. I've looked them up, but most of the stuff I saw online was vague and just overall general stuff, was hoping someone who might be familiar with the car and/or codes could help me a little more so I know how to go about getting it fixed.

The codes are:

P2119 - Generic- Throttle Actuator Control Throttle body range/performance

P06B8 - no description - had to look up online and got this - Internal Control Module Non-Volatile Random Access Memory (NVRAM) Error

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi irconfused. You can start here:

P2119 - https://www.obd-codes.com/p2119

P06B8 - https://www.obd-codes.com/p06b8

There are trouble shooting steps which are the correct way to narrow down possible causes for DTC codes. They are explained in the two linked articles.

If one of our tech members jumps in, they may be able to give more specific information.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

Thanks. I noticed on the P2119 link it mentioned the PCM could be the cause, which definitely has me worried.

My boss took off my throttle body and gave it a thorough cleaning, so hopefully that fixes it. Did a short test drive, and no lights on, he didnt have time to hook up his code reader, will be doing that later.

The only other information my boss told me is when he plugged his reader into my car before we cleaned out the throttle body... his reader was jumping between reading 3 codes and 5 codes. NOt sure if it was because of repeat codes or not.

Hi irconfused. Unfortunately, Internet diagnosis is iffy at best and totally inaccurate at worst.

DTC codes do not tell exactly what is wrong or exactly which part is not working. They simply point in the general direction of what may be wrong. And there will usually be at least several possibilities.   In most cases, all you can do is follow the troubleshooting steps listed on the websites I linked to earlier...or the more detailed ones you would find in a service manual. And you need to do that for each code you get on a scan. That is why you think the information you have seen so far online was "vague".

Generally speaking and overly simplified: A tech would take the codes displayed and whatever symptoms your vehicle may be showing (e.g. erratic idle, stumbling etc), then match the symptoms to the various code possibilities. Then follow the prescribed troubleshooting tree to try and diagnose the issue. There really is no other shortcut. Internet diagnosis will most likely wind up with you throwing parts at the problem.

And on that note, how is your car behaving, other than the CEL and the codes that were read by your boss? You don't mention any stalling, stumbling, erratic idle etc. Is there anything odd besides the CEL? Or is your car driving normally? If there was a PCM problem, you would most likely be having some sort of drive-ability issues (but nothing is guaranteed).

Hopefully one of our tech members will jump in with more help.

In the meantime, get back to us and good luck.

Sorry, I absolutely should have put how the car was behaving. Before we cleaned out the throttle body, it was feeling like the car would stutter/stumble a bit every once in a while possibly more when it was shifting gears. Wouldn't happen often, but enough to notice. What I felt more of was a loss of power when accelerating. After cleaning out the throttlebody. There is much less of it. The light has only came on once after we cleaned it 2 days ago, and have only felt a few stutters. I've only felt a loss of power while accelerating maybe once or twice.

Hi irconfused. Again, Internet diagnosis is as accurate as throwing darts with a blindfold. We might hit something , but it sure wasn't skill.

If cleaning the throttle body seemed to help (and was not just the placebo effect), then perhaps you have very dirty or even failing throttle body. Try giving it a more thorough cleaning (with an approved throttle body specific cleaner). I can't give any more specific advice. I don't want to say replace the throttle body, since it may not be the problem and then you wasted your time money due to my blind Internet advice.

Have you tried running a bottle or two of Techron fuel injector cleaner through a tankful or two of gas (following the instructions, of course)?

Hopefully one of our tech members will have some more helpful advice.

Keep us updated and good luck.

I have not, but was planning on doing that either tonight or tomorrow. My boss is also replacing my plugs, hoping that it may be part of the problem. Your advice has been solid far (plus you are the only one responding).  And I know there is only so much you can do through the internet without actually being there and seeing the problem, etc. All your advice is greatly appreciated.
