arabiagolfer
My 2014 Fusion SE has an oil reminder feature to let you see oil life left and reminder when oil change is due. I only drive vehicle on trips so it could only be driven 1500 miles in 3 or 4 months. Today when I turned the car on the warning light message said oil change is required but I have less than 2000 miles on the oil but it probably has not been changed in 6 months. I have the oil change interval set for 5000 miles so it should not "remind" me that oil change is required? Can it remind you if oil has not been changed in a number of months??
andyross
On my 2011, it seems to be a mix of miles and/or time. I don't drive all that much either, and it often triggers after about 10-12 months.

Yes, the Intelligent Oil Life Monitor (IOLM) works on both time and miles. The recommend oil change interval is 1 year/10,000 miles, whichever comes first. So 1 year/10,000 miles is the default IOLM monitor setting. However, if you have the IOLM set to 5,000 miles, that means 6 months/5,000 miles. You have a couple of choices: You do not have to change now if you don't want, since the time requirement is 1 year. But then you will have the IOLM warning light illuminated for the next 6 months. Therefore, you can simply reset the IOLM to 5,000 miles/6 months again now. Then you will have another 5+ months to the next warning, which will be ~11+ months and time to change the oil. Or change the oil and reset the monitor now (not really necessary). Just make sure you do not put over 10,000 miles/1 year on the oil. How the IOLM functions is also explained in the Owners Manual. Let us know how you make out and good luck. Edited August 18, 2020 by bbf2530
arabiagolfer
Thanks much. I guess I am "old school" but I guess I will go ahead and get oil changed. I have always felt that a couple of oil changes in a year was probably a good idea. I was out of town when the warning message came on and had never seen it before so I wasn't sure if something was wrong. Thanks again for your response.
