Pgilz
today I had noticed my headlights were always on during the day when the switch was on the automatic headlight setting. Just my speedometer lights were dull and when I switched to my map it also was on night mode. I thought the photo sensor was in the rear view mirror so i disconnected the mirror harness and the car was still in night mode. Is the sensor somewhere else?

You do not mention what model year you have. On most models, the ambient light sensor is located on the center of the dashboard, up towards the windshield. drolds1
The light sensor in the mirror is for the auto-dim mirror feature. It has nothing to do with the headlights. Possible causes: The autolamps are on continuously Wiring, terminals or connectors Light sensor Headlamp switch (integrated into the Front Lighting Control Module (FLM)) BCM
eGuru
An additional possibility is the wiper control module since headlights come on when wipers are turned on.
Pgilz
Thank you, it's a 2014 fusion titanium. If it is the sensor, is that possible to change out myself? I'll take a closer look when I get out of work.
andyross
If it is the main light sensor, it could also affect automatic climate control as it may also double as a sun sensor. I had a 2000 Sable where it went bad and you could tell the climate control did not run the fan as high as it would normally do during the day.
drolds1
Yes. It's pretty easy. See the video here. Of course, that may not be the source of the problem. The part is about $40.
nayza
Same problem autolamps stay on and never turn off. New sun sensor didn't fix the issue. Any suggestions? 2013* Edited August 28, 2023 by nayza
