Camshaft sensor issues - Moisture in the crank P 0340 & 0344

So... Love the FFH but as its getting older I've run into an annoying thing... This was second time I brought my FFH into ford around the same time of the year 1 year apart.. 

 

I follow the normal oil change guide  regarding how much time or mileage between changes as well as watching the oil quality sensor.  Well, in the spring I've gotten this power sucking feeling after I've stopped the vehicle after driving it for a long period of time. It will throw a light but still drives okay. just very under powered.  If I wait over night the power suck is gone until the long drive, turned off for a period then starting it up again the issue returns. So they replaced the sensor and did an oil change like last time and no issues.. This time around the oil quality gauge said it was at 83% and my oil change sticker said I was 1 month out till the next change... 

 

Anybody else experience this as well?

 

The dealer says I need to get an oil change more frequent the the every 6 months I've been doing.

Never experienced this on my 2010 or now on my 2019 FFH.

Ford recommends 10k miles or once a year for oil changes. Had my 2010 almost 10 years and only did it once a year. Never any issues. While "The Works" package is reasonably priced, every 6 month may be a bit of an overkill. Any more frequent than that is just wasting money unless there is a good reason other than dealer profit.

Yeah I never had this issue until I moved to an Island where its humid and to the mechanics point I definitely don't drive it as long as I used to. My commute to work for years was 30-45 minutes. Now, its about 5 minutes and long hauls only happen on weekends.

Oil changes are not the problem.

Hi Dan. Not so sure about the more frequent oil change interval recommendation. The OCI is 1 year/10,000 miles, whichever comes first. If you are changing every 6 months at far less than 10,000 miles, there should not be an OCI issue.

 

However, did you inquire as to why the CPS was not covered under the 5 year/60,000 mile Powertrain Warranty? Unless you are outside the 5 years, which is an outside possibility for an early production 2016, you are certainly within the 60,000 mile limit.

The first time go it was.. This second time they said it was not and I was not in the mood to argue since I had a doc apt afterword. I was surprised as well when they said it was not covered.

Yeah, the CPS should have been covered on the 5 year 60K mile warranty, based on your receipt.  A Motorcraft cam position sensor is $40 at your local AA store.  My code reader has paid for itself many times over.

Yeah I'm ordering my own FORScan reader since my warranty is about up. 

 

Also, going to unlock the nav with it.
