P0299/P0304 issues

Good morning all! I am on her for a friend. She has a 2016 Fusion with the 2.0t engine. As the title suggests, she is throwing 2 CEL's, the first being Turbocharger 'A' Underboost Condition, which I'm thinking is most likely caused by the other code, cylinder 4 misfiring.

So far I replaced all 4 spark plugs, but still the same issue. My next thought is that possibly coil pack #4 is causing the issue? We are wanting to try swapping pack 4 with one of the other packs to see if the problem moves to that cylinder instead. Are the cylinders ordered so that cylinder 1 starts at the left, then number 4 would be all the way right?

Other than trying the coil packs, if anyone could offer more insight into the issue, it would be greatly appreciated!

Many people (myself included) don't like to use the terms "left" and "right" when referring to things under the hood.   It can get confusing.   Remember, when you're looking at the engine from in front of the car, what's on your left is on the car's right.  It might be less confusing if you use the terms "driver's side" and "passenger's side"  or even "port" and "starboard" (if you're a navy type!)  Generally, he number 1 cylinder is usually the one on the same end of the engine as the alternator, water pump and A/C compressor.  The number 4 cylinder is usually on the same end of the engine as the flywheel.

Hope this helps, and good luck.

Hi JoeDub. The Owners Manual usually has an engine diagram showing the cylinder firing order. I know mine does.

Some other things to consider: First...this may be a failed PCM,  which would be one explanation as to why swapping the plugs did not help. If swapping or replacing the coils does not help, there is s good chance it is a bad PCM.

Second, your friends Fusion may still be covered under the 5 year/60,000 mile Powertrain Warranty. And whatever is causing this issue may also be covered.

Hopefully one of our tech members may jum pin with more specific troubleshooting advice.

Keep us updated and good luck.
