2015 Titanium Cabin Air Filter

Recommended Posts

My local Ford dealer tells me that my 2015 Titanium does not have a cabin air filter.  Is there a way I can determine this without removing the glove box?  It seems strange to me that there would not be a cabin air filter.  The owner manual says change every 20,000 miles.  Thanks.

Hi Gary. Who told you this at your Dealership? A Salesperson? A Service Department staff member? A Parts Department employee?

To my knowledge, your 2015 Fusion does have a cabin air filter. I checked two online Ford Parts sellers and they both list a cabin air filter (Part#  DG9Z-19N619-AA ) for the 2015 Fusion Titanium.

The Fusion has had a cabin air filter for some time now. Also see here: https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=2015+Ford+Fusion+Cabin+Air+Filter

I believe you were given incorrect information.

If I am mistaken, I am sure another member will jump in with a correction.

Thank you for your replies.  Here is the takedown by the numbers:

1.  Took car in for 60,000 mile service, local dealer, Quick Lane.  I have had other work done here satisfactorily and at reasonable prices.  I specifically asked for cabin air filter.  Upon checkout I was not charged for such filter.  I asked service advisor about this and he said the car did not have a cabin air filter.

2.  I returned home and looked in the factory owner's manual.  It said change cabin air filter every 20,000 miles.

3.  The next day I returned to the dealer but to full service department up front.  I inquired about cabin air filter question in Quick Lane.  She told me that whether or not the car had the filter depended on the trim level, choice of upgrades to AC system, etc.  I again asked if my car, Titanium, high level trim, had a filter.  She said she would get shop foreman to answer the question.

4.  After considerable wait the shop forman told me he did not know if the car had a cabin air filter or not and the only way to find out was to take glove box out and see if there was a filter.  I thought his to be quite extraordinary.  Really?  He did not even back up #3 about level of trim decides this.

5.  Posted to forum and receiving replies.

6.  Call to another dealer (the one I bought the car from) to find out they say the car does have a cabin air filter.

7.  Have no idea why I am getting the mixed messages about this.

8.  Thanks again for your help.  I will overcome.

Hi Gary. Perhaps they were just having a bad day, since you've been happy with the service in the past. If not, then what drolds1 stated.

Concerning your point #4: As part of the standard "Ford Multi-point Maintenance Check", that is exactly what they are supposed to do. Look to see if the cabin air filter needs replacement. So that would naturally entail accessing the old filter. or at least determining if there is or is not one. I guess that point slipped by the shop foreman. ?

But as drold1s and I have mentioned, your 2015 Titanium does have one. See the videos we posted. If you are relatively handy, you can purchase the filter, do it yourself and save the labor costs (and a jacked up part cost).

Let us know how you make out and good luck,

Correct a typo.

It's even worse if the shop foreman didn't know.  If having a cabin filter was dependent on trim level, the owners manual would have a footnote saying "if equipped."   It doesn't.   Should you wish to tackle this yourself, it's fairly easy, as bbf2530 pointed out.  Just go easy on plastic parts when removing and reinstalling.

Given the information on this forum I found and removed the cabin air filter.  It was really there.  Sorta hard to get to for an old man with poor eyesight.  That is why I am willing to pay for it to be done.  Now the questions still remains- why did the Ford dealership employee tell me that my Fusion did not have such a filter?  Should I discontinue doing business with them or all Ford dealer service departments like this?

 Thanks for your help.

Hi Gary. They told you it had no cabin air filter because they were uninformed and did not bother to double check the information.

Should you discontinue using them? I guess that depends on several variables. So...in my opinion here are a few: First, you should definitely stop by the Dealership to speak with the "shop foreman" and whoever else told you there was no cabin sir filter, and politely let them know the information they gave you was incorrect. See how they react. How they react is important. Are they polite and apologize, or do they treat you like you are crazy?

You stated you have had good service in the past there. Perhaps this was a glitch on a bad day. If you feel it would be difficult to trust them in the future, how far is another Ford Dealer? Don't want to make life too hard on yourself either.

See how those thing go and make a decision from there.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

Good Lord...

Stories like this are what fuels (and expands) the idea that automobile Dealerships are staffed by imbeciles.

Given the level of technology employed in today's vehicles, even in the most inexpensive base models, there ought to be much better vetting of repair and maintenance personnel.

I shudder to think of how the forthcoming tech-loaded electric vehicles are going to fare...

Man, you guys are a bit harsh.  Ford does a bunch of silly things like deleting stuff like cabin filters mid-year on some trim series on some models and not others then putting them back a year or two later, so it's perfectly reasonable for a dealer service employee to not know off the top of their head which model and which trim in which model year does and does not have a certain feature.  And there also isn't really an easy documented place where they can go to check, at least not in less time than it would take to actually go to the vehicle and check.  Just because a vehicle has a place for a cabin filter, doesn't always mean it actually has one.

Mr. Waldo, yes, I was somewhat critical of the fella's dealership, but when the service techs, and even the service manager weren't sure about a regularly-serviced item, I tend to be pretty critical.

The cabin air filter arrangement is an item that doesn't appear to be easily deleted, unless Ford simply opted to not install the filter element during assembly. I would expect a guy whose job entails knowing all about these vehicles to have pretty comprehensive knowledge of their maintenance procedures.

That said, I totally agree with you about how Ford will design a wonderful car, with all kinds of little "surprises and delights" to make a customer happy that they bought it; then Ford's ominous bean-counters arrive in the picture, and those little details begin to disappear... sometimes one or two at a time, and other times, in a wholesale bunch. It's particularly visible on the 2018 and 2019 Fusions, where so many small, somewhat insignificant features disappeared. I'm talking about the trunk grab handle, the hood insulation, the aluminum pedal trim on the top-end cars, the powered steering column, the seat memory levels, the wheel choice for the Energie model, and many other little features that don't cross my mind at this time. This is a personal gripe of mine...
