Recommended Posts

hey guys been trying to diagnose an issue with my car havent had it long it has 52k miles and i travel alot for work well while i was driving one morning to work as i was going up hill the car started to struggle going up the hill then out of no where the check engine light came on and it seemed like that engine started missing so i instantly pulled over and shut the car off got out checked all the fluids which checked out within normal limits and let the car sit for 10 minutes then started back up with no issues but ever since then every time i work my way up at a hill and have to put the car at 3k or 3500 rpm to climb the hill it tries to do that same thing but when i let off the gas then get back into it it clears itself up the only thing i can think of is that its a possible vaccum line cause the windows will also fog up when its struggling to climb the hill has anyone else ran into this problem? thanks for yalls time

Hi Fennygolf. To make it easier for all of us to help you, would you please use the "Edit" button and add some punctuation to your post? It is difficult to read and understand.

Also, the Powertrain Warranty is 5 years/60,000 miles. So you may be better off taking it to your Ford Dealer for proper diagnosis and repair,  in case the problem is covered under the Powertrain Warranty.

Good luck.

Well see that's where things get tricky. Because the dealership i bought the car from gave me lifetime powertrain warranty and they said they would trying to diagnose what was going on, but the problem with that is without a code they told me it was going to acouple hundred bucks to find out what is going on without that code, i a single parents i dont have acouple hundred bucks to just throw at the car without finding the area where the issue is

Hi Fenny. Just few things.

First...You stated you had/have a CEL. A CEL should store a DTC code for at least a few drive cycles. Even if the light goes out. Call your nearest big box auto store like AutoZone etc. Most of them will check your car for codes for free. Find one that does, then go have the car checked for codes.

Second...Your Fusion is still within the 5 year/60,000 mile New Car Powertrain Warranty. There is no charge for diagnosing an engine problem under that warranty. If it is a problem not covered by the warranty, they can charge you to fix it (obviosuly). But not to diagnose it.

Third...So they gave you a lifetime powertrain warranty, but will not diagnose without a code? That is very convenient for them.

You should have a written warranty. Does it state they can charge you "a couple hundred bucks" to diagnose an engine problem if there is no code?

Check your paperwork to see exactly what your rights and their obligations are.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

yes i do know that my car is still covered under the ford warranty but from what the dealership said without being able to see what the code is and narrow down the problem they would have to start from top to bottom and check every little thing and that isnt covered by my warranty that i have with them so im kinda stuck now if it does it again ill get to an auto-parts store and see if they can tell me where the issue is and then direct the dealership but i was just wondering if anyone else on here has ran into the same problem that i ran into and if they ever figured out where the problem was at i appreciate everyones time on helping me with this

Hi Fenny. Whatever the Dealer may have told you, that is not how the Ford 5 year/60,000 mile Powertrain Warranty works. They at least need to check your car for stored codes and preliminarily diagnose the issue to see if it is covered under the Ford Powertrain Warranty.. Then, if it is not covered under that 5 year/50,000 mile Powertrain Warranty or any extra CPO/Used Car warranty you may have, they would tell you so, and you would make a decision as to whether to have the car repaired there or somewhere else.

You need to contact Ford Customer Relations.

And again, the Check Engine light does not need to be on to check for codes. The vehicle memory will store codes for at least several drive cycles. So if it has not been too long, you can go to an AutoZone (or most big box auto stores), and ask them check for any stored codes.

It never hurts to ask online. However, someone else's Fusion could have the exact same symptoms as your Fusion, but the cause could be completely different.

Keep us updated and good luck.
