No Map Updates for Ford/Mercury/Lincoln Nav systems!

Recommended Posts

Well, apparently there is a map update available for my 2009 Ford Fusion SEL AWD Navigation system, but I can't get it! I called the # for map updates, spoke with someone at Ford of Canada customer service, was told that "at this time, there is no map update as Ford is in negotiations with NAVTEQ, the company that makes the DVD based system." What a crock of shit....you pay over $2,000.00 for a NAV system, there is a map update available (it says that there is on the NAVTEQ website) but you can't get the update, because Ford is in negotiations? Please....that's just not acceptable. Here in Ontario, a relatively new law has required that many road names/etc. have been changed to accomodate enhanced 911 service. The new names/addresses are NOT in the current nav system/maps in my car. This is very frustrating to say the least. I called my dealer (as suggested by Ford of Canada) to get them to check into this. I'll report back when I know something. In the meantime if anyone else has any new information on this topic I'd really appreciate hearing about it.

Cheers from Canada.

I can't hold Ford to this one, though.... I went through the same rant as you with my Garmin GPS receiver about four years ago. Update CDs were not available for my particular model, in spite of what NAVTEQ was stating. I would like to blame NAVTEQ for holding out to the final penny in negotiations. They are basically the only player in town, hardly any competition against them.

Now, if MAPQUEST has been updated, then your update might be getting close. Note the word, "MIGHT".

Oh, BTW, a new road, completed about three years ago, about two miles from my location, does not show up on any map program. It is a four-lane highway, not exactly a small trail-in-the-woods. Very irritating...

I wish I had some different news for you, but I'm having the problem also. Navteq site, says check with your Ford dealer, so I did. The Ford dealer, says Navteq, is not a vendor for them at the moment, so there is nothing they can do.

It's a totally different story than when I bought the car, I was told an updated version would be available this summer.

I would also appreciate hearing about it if anyone has better news.

I just checked the Navteq site & I'm not getting that message anymore, they're now offering map updates for 2007 - 2009 Fusions. I guess they worked out whatever issues they were having with Ford.

Appreciate your anger but it is misplaced. This is NOT Fords fault! NAVTEQ is the one you should be angry at, as they are the ones who control the release of the updates. This is why it is typical for some updates to hit the market.

In this case the anger is appropriate, as Ford was trying to take a bigger cut of NAVTEQ's pie. Ford did and I presume still does get a piece of every update disc NAVTEQ sells.

Actually, since I'm the original poster of this topic, I don't really care whether it's Ford or Navteq, all I know is that there "is" a NAV update, but I can't get it. I've already written to Ford of Canada and suggested that when this "mess" has been resolved, they can do the right thing and give me the update for a reduced price. Good will goes a long way, bad news travels fast....Ford is on a roll and they don't need negative press. Hopefully, this unacceptable situation is fixed and soon!

Hi Blizzard. :D You must have missed it. As "jonault" already replied in post #4, Ford and Navteq have reached agreement, as the updates have been available for almost a week now. You can go to the Navteq site for verification and to order.

Good luck. :beerchug:

I don't think it's anyones 'fault' per se (I'm assuming you're using 'fault' as a negative term). I used to work with Garmin and other GPS companies and I can tell you that this is the way that Navteq controls their data (and rightly so). They probably shouldn't annouce that these updates are available as soon as they do, but it helps them to make more money, so there will always be an 'overlap' of when complanies can actually make these updates available. Besides, it takes time for any company to receive these updates, verify them, organize them on disc, and then make them available for production/sale (Navteq does not make any other companies discs for them). Ford, nor any other company that offers GPS is going to sell a product like this that's not updatable. You just need a little patience and to allow the natural process to work itself out. As mentioned, this has already happened and that's why they are now available. Like with most things in life, whining about it is not going to make anything go any faster, especially when it's directed at the wrong company ;)

So yes, I contacted NAVTEQ and the update is available...for $200.00 US My car is only 6 months old and now the update will cost me an extra $218.00 CDN. I would like to make sure that the major changes in Canada because of the advanced 911 system rules now in place, actually are indeed found on this update before I dole out the extra money. For the $1,800.00 I paid for the Nav system on my new Fusion, I'm a little concerned that the update may not be worth it....yet. Has anyone on this forum actually purchased it?
