CrumptyDumpty
Hey everyone this is my first time posting here so please accept my apology if this correspondence isn't posted in the appropriate place. I'm trying to help out my pops with what I'm convinced is an absolute lemon. This will be long so please, be patient with me. I know there will be things that don't make sense. There's quite a lot about this situation that I don't know everything about. I'm gonna try to be as detailed as possible. My father purchased a 2014 SE new in July of 2015. He put a fair amount of highway miles on it so I'm fast forwarding to roughly 2 years ago and 110,000 on the odometer. The car starts running really bad, white smoke from the exhaust, etc. He takes it in and of course it has a blown head gasket and somehow the block ended up cracked. There was a few other issues and whatever they all were the dealership decided the whole engine needed to be replaced. He payed $4,000 on that trip. So let's fast forward to roughly 50,000 miles on engine #2. Now this motor starts running really rough, oil levels fluctuating on the dip stick, just doing weird stuff and running extremely bad. So my dad takes it in to get checked out. Let me add that all scheduled service and all these repairs were done by the same dealer he purchased the car from. So they have it for roughly a week and charge him around $500 to run some tests. They call him and tell him it's ready so he goes to pick it up and when he gets there he's told that the car isn't ready because it all of a sudden started making some kind of noises in the motor. They keep the car for roughly 2-3 weeks then they inform him that the engine needs to be replaced a 3rd time and for whatever reason he was going to be responsible for the bill. Well my father was quite irate by this and him and the dealership went back and forth for some time about this thing. Lawsuits were threatened, etc. It got pretty nasty. Basically neither party felt they should be responsible for the cost. This is about the time my little brother decided he wanted to get involved. Some info about him....he's some big shot at Worldwide Equipment here in town, he's an LS guru from what I hear, he has his own shop on the side, he's had a truck take first at LS Fest and been to SEMA, he's sponsored by Holly carbs and a bunch of other auto companies Im not really sure of because we don't really get a long. Plus I'm not a huge car guy. I drive a 300 SRT8 and own a gun shop. That's about as bad ass and involved as I care to be at this stage in life. But I do know when it comes to pretty much anything that drinks fossil fuels and spits fire, he knows his ?. One day he's on Facebook discussing what was going on with my dad's car with some of his car friends in one of their groups when this stranger decided to chime in. From what I was told their discussion started out as a disagreement on the issues pertaining to the car then in short time it turned into an obscenity filled testosterone fueled measuring contest. Come to find out the guy he was arguing with happened to be a mechanic at the dealership the car was at. So this is where we're at.....the car is still at the dealership in limbo waiting on something to get figured out between both parties. My father who basically lives check to check is having to borrow my grandfather's car to get to his job everyday across town at the University Of South Carolina. He doesn't have the money to get this car repaired and doesn't have a clue what to do from this point on. He calls the dealership weekly and has talked to everyone from the service manager up to the son of the man whose name is on the building trying to get something done. The answer was always the same, it wasn't their responsibility, either my dad covered the cost or they didn't fix the car. It felt very much like they knew the car was a dud from the start and we're basically tired of messing with the crap and were trying to do whatever they could to swat my dad away like he was some gnat on a dog's butt. That's until the owner caught wind of the previously mentioned Facebook confrontation. Very long ass story so far short, that one mechanic was let go for whatever he said to my brother and the owner agreed to repair the car again on their dime. He even gives my pops a rental. They keep the car for another 3 weeks to do the work. I picked the car up for him a few weeks ago. Well the car is pretty much worse than when it went in. This is where we're at with this car: it no longer has the heads/oil issues but now the transmission doesn't shift right. It's giving the following codes: P0741 TCC solenoid-performance or stuck off, P1744 Torque Converter Clutch System Performance. Also the turn signals, hi beam lights, steering wheel controls and back up camera no longer work. The issue with the turn signals etc. was brought to the attention of and checked by the dealership. They told my dad that it was a bad module and quoted him over $700 to repair it. The car is sitting in my dad's yard collecting pollen now. I just got home from pull a part where I got him another sccm hoping this might fix one of his issues. He's pretty much a defeated man at this point with this car. He owes more than it's worth and he can't afford to sell it for a loss right now and get him something else. I read through some posts here and there seems to be a lot of very knowledgeable people here and I'm looking for whatever help or guidance you guys can offer. What do you think we should do about all this mess? Again I'm sorry for dragging on with my first post and I greatly appreciate any input you can share with me.
akirby
Sorry to hear that. I would replace the battery and see if that fixes anything first. A weak battery can still start the car but cause strange things to happen. Good luck!
