My coolant temp sensor went out and I replaced it and cleared the codes and burped the coolant system and everything runs fine now but in the span of 3 days my coolant reservoir ran completely empty and there is no sign of leaking from the temp sensor nor was it leaking before any of this happened

Hi Archer. What model year? Mileage? Still within warranty?

If you can find no leaks, perhaps you did not fully "burp" and refill the system.

Refill the coolant reservoir and keep an eye on it. Refilling if necessary until it stops needing refilling. If the reservoir keeps dropping, you have a leak somewhere.

Perhaps one of our tech members will jump in with more advice.

Keep us updated and good luck.

It's a 2013 fusion with about 53k miles on it and Ive gone through almost 2 full bottles of 50/50 coolant in the 2 times I burped it I'm going to try it again this weekend I guess but I don't want to have to keep buying coolant to burp it if that's not what's wrong

Hi Archer. Internet diagnosis has its limitations. If you have "...gone through almost 2 full bottles of 50/50 coolant in the 2 times I burped it..." there are essentially 3 possibilities I can think of.

1 - You did not fully fill and burp the system initially.

2 - You have an external coolant leak. Perhaps you do not see it because it is pooling on an under-body shield and drying/expelling itself when you drive?

3 - You have an internal coolant leak. Blown head gasket etc. Of course, that would usually show up in the form of white clouds of exhaust.

If the coolant level does not stop falling and you keep needing to refill, then the likelihood of possibles 2 and 3 will need to be explored with a pressure test etc.

Keep us updated and good luck.

Yeah there is no smoke coming out of the exhaust except for a tiny bit on a cold start and it doesn't smell sweet I'm going to see if it's the coolant sensor I replaced that's leaking when I get home from work tonight and let you know what I find

Thanks for the update. I'm happy to hear that you found the source of the problem.  However, you did say in your initial post that there was no sign of leaking from the replacement sensor.  What codes were present that led you to replace the CHT sensor?

At any rate, it's a good example of why it's important to use OE parts when replacing things like this.

Please keep us posted.
