Wiring Question - Replacing Fog Lights

Recommended Posts

I have a 2016 Ford Fusion Titanium… completely stock. I purchased some new aftermarket fog light units…

I’m relatively familiar with cars but I’m not an expert (especially with wiring) and I always want to be 100% certain. There are two wires coming out of the units, one BLACK and the other RED. I found a wiring diagram online and I want to know what wires match up with the ones on the diagram.

As far as the fog light units… is RED power? And BLACK ground?

Almost alway in DC wiring with the exception of marine applications, red is hot and black is ground.  I would like to expand this thread a little to the newer style fog lamps:

I bought on E-Bay a replacement set of fog lights for my 2017 Energi. They didn't work. The vendor is naturally reluctant to replace them and if there is something I'm missing I don't want to bother them. However, it's not rocket science to plug these in and tell if they are working or not. So I'm wondering how I can test these further. I tried:

  • Installing them - Nada

  • Testing continuity - Nada

So I thought I'd apply voltage to the light, but am unsure as to which prong is which.

Can someone help me with this?

The newer version (2018) - Can these be repaired or do we have to buy the whole Assembly?

Which prong is positive.

We are not pikers and have a serious shop.
