OEM Mustang Caliper Upgrade?

Has anyone thought or attempted to put I would assume larger OEM Mustang front calipers on their Fusion? I'm running the 17" Mustang wheels from 2010 on my own 2010. I would imagine the mounting points are the same, perhaps the need for larger rotors which the wheels would accommodate. I know this would also require a larger master cylinder, but I'd believe you could just through in a similar year Mustang MC for that purpose.

Has anyone thought or attempted this at all?

This is interesting. I wonder if the 19" Fusion or Mustang wheels would similarly fit my 2012 Fusion Sport? The factory 18s spin like crazy even on dry pavment, much less when it's wet.

Hi piratepress. I will answer what I can: First...2013+ model year Fusion wheels will not fit on your 2012 Fusion. They have different lug spacing. Some Mustang wheels will fit, and others have installed them.

Second...If you want 19" wheels for the look, go ahead and get them. If you are doing it for increased traction, save your money. Tires are the biggest factor when discussing traction.

Switching to a 19" wheel from your 18's will not affect wheel spin. Wheel spin is due to a loss of traction. The tires (and power applied) are what affects traction. You need new/better tires and/or a lighter foot on the pedal. ?

What make/model tire is on your Fusion now? How old are your tires? How much tread is left on them? Those are the things that will affect traction. Switch to an ultra high perseverance all-season tire, or a summer only tire (according to where you live) and you will see a big difference.

Yes, there are the added variables of lighter/performance wheels etc., which can slightly increase power to the ground, but that is not your issue and essentially irrelevant to this discussion.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Thanks for the input. Tires are OEM Goodyear Eagle RS-A that were new when I bought the car a year ago. They're classified as "High Performance All Season" so not cheap tires by any means. On my last sports car I used BF Goodrich G-Force Sport tires which are considered as "Ultra High Performance Summer" so I may go back to them when the Goodyears wear out.

Hi piratepress. I don't recall...You purchased your Fusion new? What model year is it and how many miles were on it when you purchased it? How many miles now?

Good luck.

UGH those Goodyear Eagle RS-A tires were on my '11 Sport FWD when I got it, and they were AWFUL. I replaced them right away, even though they had a good amount of tread left.

Same as you, my experience was that they spun like crazy under moderate acceleration and in wet or cold weather, they were downright dangerous.

Tires are SO IMPORTANT. Consider, too, that if they have poor traction under acceleration, they will have equally poor traction when braking or making an emergency maneuver.

I live in MI so I needed an all season tire - I bought these Micheline Cross Climates and they are excellent IMHO. Wheel spin is virtually non existent and the car is downright QUICK off the line. Best purchase I ever made, lol
