2014 SE EcoBoost Random stalling

Recommended Posts

This has been a completely random occurrence ever since it has begun. So what the vehicle does is it will lose power (not electrical though), shake like it's trying to go, then the RPMs will drop to zero and the engine will cut off. After putting the car back in park and turning I back on it doesn't happen again, except for this one time I happened twice within 2 mins. The car struggles to crank back on but it does it within 5-10 seconds, but as I stated earlier, this occurrence is very random. Some times I can go months without it happening and some times it will happen twice in a week. I'm not really sure what could be the cause. Anyone got any ideas?

Hi kg. Far too many possibilities to make an accurate blind Internet guess. Could be anything from bad gas (keep a record of where/when you fill up) to a multitude of various engine issues.

Next time it happens, try to immediately (or as soon as possible) get to a big box auto store like AutoZone etc., where they will scan and read your vehicle's OBDII system for any stored DTC codes. Most will do it for free.  Try not to turn the car off, if possible.

If you can post back with some DTC codes, then someone may be able to at least  point you in the right direction.

Keep us updated and good luck.

I do have exactly the same issue as you described. I notice that is mostly when on winter months and right after when starting and driving slow - such a parking lot.

Another point is always happen if driving a little before...

No code with the reader. No freeze frame, nothing...

RPM dial goes crazy (0 to 1500rpm, 0 in matter of seconds).

Yea, that's exactly what mine does as well. It's always when going slow, though I have noticed that the car seems like it is struggling to downshift but this is again only when going slow (under 10 mph).

So update, went and got it checked out a while back and no codes (Sorry for the late update) :(

However the stalling stopped for a while but it just started back up this week unfortunately, and its currently quite

toasty outside where I`m located so the only in winter or cooler weather thing is out the window.

I`m starting to close in on a few possibilities from my research on the matter:

1.  The high pressure fuel pump is going bad

2. The MAF sensor is going bad

3. The Low pressure fuel sensor is going bad

4. The fuel filter is bad

5. The throttle body is dirty or malfunctioning

Those seem to be the most common issues among other owners with the same or similar issues with this vehicle,

but I am gonna start small and try to run a fuel system cleaner through it and then go from there.
