Rattling noise while being revved

Recently I’ve noised my 2016 fusion titanium awd making a rattling noise upon cold start up. It’s gone within a few seconds and sounds like a loose heat shield. Today, after I was done washing my car, my exhaust was gurgling so I assumed I got some water in the exhaust. I got in started it up (engine was already up to temp) and gave it a little rev to get the water out. When I let off, I heard somewhat of a grinding noise. So I did it again, and again and again and again to see if I was just being paranoid. It doesn’t matter what rpm I rev it to, the grinding is there once I let off. Once it drops back to idle the grinding is gone. The video is me sitting in the driver seat pointing the camera at the ground. It sounds as though it’s coming from the rear center of the engine. Should I be worried?

Hi Andy. Rattling/grinding etc. is never a good thing. How much to worry about it depends on what is causing it. Usually a heat shield...as you first thought. But that is difficult, at best, to determine over the Internet.

My advice: If you can not accurately determine the cause on your own, you should have a shop/tech you can trust diagnose it properly.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

i had a similar issue but it was due to the flex-plate bolts not being torqued down properly after an engine replacement.
it would do it on cold startup then go away then come back when revving. i think i still have a video of it but its over 10Mb.
the issue i had sounds exactly as you describe. i cant watch your video since im a bit late to the party and its gone.
