jdfet
I have a 2017 Fusion S with the 2.0. I had 4 tires put on today originally planning on just 2 front ones. The 2 rear tires had plenty of tread except for the inside of the tires, they were cupping. I was told I needed to replace the back shocks. Does that sound right? The car has 100k on it. Thanks
thelastsumurai
NO. I doubt it's shocks. I think you need a 4 wheel alignment. Go to a ford dealer to get it. Ford will come back to you if you need shocks.
andyross
If the front tires were worn but the back good, you weren't rotating them often enough. Also, if you do only get 2 new tires, the new ones should go in the back, or you run the risk of oversteer (rears losing traction first), which can be harder to recover from than understeer. I don't know how reliable it is these days, but the classic way of checking shocks is to manually bounce a corner and then see how quickly it stops. Do this at all 4 to see if they are about the same.

Hi jdfet. andyross was 100% correct about your tire wear issue and the fact that when replacing only two tires, the two new tires should be installed on the rear of the car. Yes, even for a front drive vehicle. So out of curiosity, how often did you/do you rotate your tires? Good luck.
Waldo
I recently replaced the rear shocks on my Fusion Hybrid. One of them was completely dead. Yet my tire wear was still perfectly even. So another vote for the alignment.
jdfet
I figured the tire place was trying to unnecessarily sell me on something. And as far as rotation goes, no I had not rotated them as I should have.
