When you replaced the battery, did you or the place you had do it - program the new battery to the car?

I've read that it needs to be done, so the car known there it new equipment (so to say)

So, how do I "program" the new battery?  I replaced mine in November 2018, just like any other car.  Now, battery is not holding a charge, and I may need to replace it again.

Hi TonyS. A couple of points here. First, just for clarification...The new battery does not need to be programmed. The BMS (Battery Management System) of the vehicle needs to be programmed.

Second, if a Dealer replaced the battery, they would normally program the BMS. Even if they did not, having he vehicle sit locked and completely untouched for a minimum of 8 hours will accomplish the same programming. Is it safe to assume that occurred at some point in the last 4+ years?

Next...Your battery is now 4+ years old. 3-4 years is about what can be expected out of a battery in a modern vehicle. This is due to the heavy electronic/electrical/computer reliance of newer vehicles.

Therefore, needing to replace it now, at 4+ years, would not be unusual.

I would recommend you have the battery tested. And via a proper battery load test, not an old fashioned battery meter test. Old fashioned battery meter tests are no longer accurate on newer vehicles, for the reasons explained above.

There are often coupons available on the Ford owner website for a free battery test. Also on individual Dealer websites.

Keep us updated and good luck.
