Gas mileage question?

Just purchased a 2019 ffh, has high mileage 95k but is super clean and priced right so I figured I could squeeze another 100k out of it?

Problem I'm having is when I drive 15 or so miles in town mileage goes as low as 18mpg and sometimes gets up to 27 or 28mpg, fluctuates alot? I'm driving slower than a grandma and essentially hypermiling trying to squeeze mileage around town w no luck. I had rented one for a week and it got around 38/40 city and 42/44 highway and I loved it so that's why I bought one? What the heck I'm bummed? My straight gas Altima got better combined mileage? Anyone have any ideas? A friend has Forscan and I'm thinking hook her up but don't really know what to look for? Anyone have a clue about this low mileage prob, it's primarily city driving that's the prob? Also noticed on the trip readout it tells me how many miles gas/ev it went but it says regen miles Zero? Did I get a lemon, owned it for a week or so now and I'm pulling my hair? HELP!

I guess the first question is if you're actually getting regen.  When you lift off the gas, does it feel like it's coasting in neutral, or does it fell like the brakes are dragging a bit?  Does your cluster have a battery state of charge display (they deleted that in later model years)?  If it does, what do you see it doing?  How often/long does it operate in electric mode?  You should be able to cruise at light throttle on the highway for about half a mile with the gas engine off.

I'm still getting 45mpg easily on my 2014, so no reason you shouldn't be much better than what you're reporting.

Is ECO on or off? (button on the console) On my 2019 when ECO is off my performance is excellent but mileage suffers a lot. With it on it's much slower off the line but if I drive more sedate I get very good mileage. My mpg for the 33k miles I've driven is currently at 46. Suffers a lot during the hot summer with A/C and winter with heater on. But 46 mpg for the 33k miles is more than acceptable for me.

Most of the threads here are ancient except this one so I thought I'd chime in. I bought my son a 2019 Gold Certified FFH with about 20,000 miles last summer. The best mileage he got was 28. Dealer could find nothing wrong. I hadn't driven it since day one so I decided to test it myself. I drove it back and forth to work and then over a variety of roads, and over the course of about 100 miles developed my own version of hypermiling. Maybe this is old news on the forum, but here it is anyway. In ECO I found that if I accelerated briskly to about 2-3 mph over my goal, completely released the throttle for an instant and then got back on it would immediately go into EV mode. Driving in this manner in town I averaged 50 mpg. My accelerations were respectable as I was trying to minimize the amount of time the engine was running. Driving this way eliminated the feeling of trying to baby the thing and hold up traffic. It has been known for decades that large throttle openings are more efficient because it reduces internal pumping losses.

I have a 2019 hybrid was very happy to average 46 mpg for the first 2years. I needed new tires, so I bought some bf Goodrich as the Michelin gas savers were out of stock

. Big mistake, I'm now averaging just over 40 mpg in freeway and city driving. Has to be the tires because nothing else was done to it.

Anyone else experience this?

.

New tires in general will cause your average mpg to drop compared to worn tires that you were used to.

Reason being is that new tires weigh more than the same worn tire and also the amount of friction with the road is greater.
