Rust area under the edge of my windshield

Recommended Posts

My 2010 Fusion has a small rust area under the top edge of the windsheild. Narrow, about 1.5" side to side extending about .5" under the glass.

Any way to mitigate this that's less intrusive than removing and remounting the windsheild?

Hi tubegeek. No, not really. If you want to eliminate the rust and stop the spread, you would need to remove the windshield and fix the entire area of rust.

You can make the exposed rusted area (the part not under the glass) look a little better by covering it with touch-up paint. But that will not stop the rust process.

I am sure others will jump in with more advice.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

Thanks for the reply. To be clear, there really isn't anything going on on the surface of the roof - this spot under the glass is isolated there. It's kind of weird.

If it matters, I have a moon roof and the moon roof seems not to have any issues either.

Hi tubegeek. Yes, I did understand your initial description of where the rust is. Unfortunately, the only way to mitigate rust damage is eliminate the rusted area and paint it. Otherwise the rust/corrosion will spread.

No harm in also stopping by a reputable body shop and ask them for a professional opinion.

Keep us updated and good luck.
