DCSipp
Backed up my 2016 fusion titanium. When I went to shift it to drive, the handle moved with no problem but hitting the gas and I went backwards. Camera was still showing also. Put in park, turned off and now won’t start. Accessories power comes on but that’s about it. Point me in a direction please.
andyross
There shifter is not mechanical. It just moves a switch to different contacts. Sounds like something became disconnected and it still thinks you are in reverse, which is why it won't start.
Waldo
In a 2016, the shifter is connected by a cable to the transmission. On the transmission end of that cable, your have the TR (Transmission Range) sensor, which is basically the switch that tells the computer what position the lever/cable/transmission is in. So it certainly could be an issue with that sensor. But it could also be there is something amiss in the shifter/cable itself. There's also a recall that was issued in June with the bushing on the transmission end of the cable that could cause the issue you are describing. I got that letter for my 2014 but it said there aren't enough parts to fix everyone yet. But if you haven't seen that recall letter, first thing to do would be to get in touch with Ford and/or a dealer.
DCSipp
Thanks. It’s the cable. It disconnected at the transmission arm. The bushing failed and it appears is under recall 22s43.
andyross
Did the Fusion ever switch to pure computer control? I know at some point the MKZ used pushbutton selection. Not sure if the two used separate systems for awhile or not.
DCSipp
Spoke to dealer. They had the parts and could do the recall. Trouble is, I would have to get the car there. This is about 75 miles away. tow would be $$$, time is a pain. Had a friend stop by the dealer and buy the parts, they would not give them to me. but for ~$8. not going to worry about it.
