Gman40
Drove home from work this morning, parked it and a few hours later went to start but only cranked over. Noticed when I was done turning the key it continues to crank for about 5 more seconds on its own. Checked my fuses for starter, alternator and fuel and all were ok. I switched some of the relays to try and rule that out as well . Battery seems fine, hard crank, I even put a jumper box to it but still did the same and sounded the same. I also tried putting in neutral and starting but with the same results. Any info would be appreciated

I can not Internet diagnose your 2012 Fusion non-start issue. However, the fact that it "...continues to crank for about 5 more seconds..." is most likely normal (blind Internet diagnosis). In the later model year, first generation Fusion, the ignition/starter system was designed so that all we had to do is turn the key, release it, and the vehicle would continue to crank (for a short period, as yours is doing). No need to hold the key fully turned as in the old days. You probably never noticed it before you had this no-start issue, because the vehicle would normally start. This information is also explained in the Owners Manual. Hopefully, one of our tech members may jump in with help on the no-start issue. Keep us updated and good luck. WKelley
Which engine are we dealing with here? Definitely normal that it spins after letting key go. My car is the 2.5L 4cyl. My car has a gremlin which it randomly will crank no start. I generally turn the key on and off without cranking 3-4 times then I try again and it usually (for me) starts. I feel my car has a failing engine computer. My car never stores codes during these crank no start times, if your car also is setting no codes then it is likely computer related.
