Almost every morning I drive 5 miles to the gym. There is a small hill on the way. Going up, the engine kicks in and the wrench light is shown.

  • the wrench is gone when I return
  • I suspect that if its warm enough this doesn't occur but that may be more that the engine doesn't kick in
  • When the engine kicks in at other times, no wrench

Hi rp14. Is your 2019 Fusion still within the 3 year/36,000 mile New Vehicle Warranty, the 5 year/60,000 mile Powertrain Warranty or the extended Energi Warranty? If yes, set up a service appointment with your Ford Dealer and have the issue properly diagnosed and repaired. It would also be a good idea to take a shot video showing the CEL light illuminating so you can show it to the Service Writer.

In the meantime, you can go to your local big box auto store and have them scan your vehicle for any stored DTC codes. Most, like AutoZone etc., will do so for free.

If there are any, post the codes back here and we may be able to give you some general direction.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.
