Squirmy Steering when Turning 90 Degrees into Traffic

This is my first Fusion and notice something when pulling out into traffic (not a merging lane but turning right at a stop sign into heavy traffic).  Where I live in town typically has heavy, fast-moving traffic.  I've noticed if I'm turn out into traffic and am heavy on the throttle, I'm fighting with the wheel for a few seconds before things smooth out.  This is a new experience for me in any prior cars I've driven.

At first I thought it might be the fact that the Fusion is FWD and has a relatively powerful turbo motor which was producing torque steer.  Although this might be the case, I noticed the steering wheel feel in this type of instance is similar to the feedback given from my lane-keeping assist function on the car.  I need to fight the wheel a bit to keep the car moving where I want it to go.  Maybe a combination of both torque steer under heavy throttle and the lane keep assist causing this, perhaps.

I'll try to remember to turn off the lane assist feature next time I pull into heavy traffic to see what happens.

Has anybody experienced this and, if so, have any thoughts to share?

Thanks.

Hi gorilla. It does sound like torque steer, as you and Waldo surmised. Especially since it seems as though perhaps your previous vehicles were RWD or AWD?

Unless there is a problem in your vehicle, Lane Keep Assist should not be active from a stop.

Keep us updated and good luck.
