WKelley
Got my hitch installed (2010 SE) and now I need to run the wiring for the adapter for the lights. My little trailer only has 2 lights and they are LED so the power draw will be low. The wiring kit comes with a 10A fuse holder. I'm trying to figure out how to get it all the way to the battery but they sure have a lot of stuff in the way on the driver's side firewall. The power port inside the console sure looks like a nice easy place to tap in, but I'm not sure how many amps the circuit is given. I will be using my trailer maybe 10 times all year and for very short drives, under 30 minutes. Thoughts? WKelley
Well, the silence is deafening, lol. I know this is a bad idea so I'm going to run the wire straight to the battery as per instructions. I'm seriously considering sneaking the wire through the floor at the fuel pump plate, they give a good solid 16ga thick sheath wire so it should be fine exposed to weather, plus there will also be a fuse where it connects to the battery. Oh well, so much for the easy way, lol.
akirby
Very few fusions have a hitch. I used the 12v power point in the rear hatch for my MKX with no problems.
WKelley
I agree, not a good tow vehicle. I just need it to go 5 miles each way to the dump. I ended up tapping into the 12V in the console. Was a lot more work than I expected, lol.
WKelley
Final follow up: towed my trailer to the dump today. Boy I could really feel it. Turns out I had 1050lbs of stuff in my trailer + the weight of the trailer at 250lbs and myself and my son at about 350lbs for both of us. Needless to say I was overloaded and will need to be careful in the future. I now understand why they don't suggest towing with these cars.

Just remember the biggest issue with towing a heavy load is stopping especially with a relatively light tow vehicle.
