2.0L engine

Recommended Posts

Greetings, new member here.....

I`m taking delivery of a 2017 fusion platinum. It has 19,900 miles on it and has the 2.0l engine. I have people telling me that there is a issue with these engines of head gaskets failing.  Is there something in particular causing this, like the way one drives or is it just hit and miss?

Welcome to the Forum. Yes, there is a well-known issue with Ford's I4 Ecoboost engines.  It's not just head gasket failures. A design flaw results in coolant intrusion into the cylinders and subsequent engine failure.  An entire long block replacement is necessary.  Ford extended the warranty, but only on the 1.5L, not the 2.0. See the latest TSB from Ford. There's more information here if you go through the archives.  There may be a class action lawsuit.

Where did you buy the car from?  If it's a Ford dealer, ask for the car's service history.  If it's had an engine replacement, there should be stickers reflecting that in the engine compartment.

It has nothing to do with how the car is driven.

Nothing to do with how the car is driven? Certainly can be if the snot was beat out of it. But chances are it is hit or miss as some of these engines do not have a problem, others do. 2017 with 19K was probably owned by a old man so was probably not beat on and just a bad engine since new.

I have a 2016 titanium 2.0 turbo, 110,000 miles so far ,,, my wife takes it to the drag strip to race against me , we have not taken it to the track in the last year or two ,,,in the last 10000 miles, after i get gas it does not want to start,,, after 3 or 4 tries it starts  stumbles for a few seconds then is ok,,

engine light came on ( don't remember the code ,but it said O2 sensor ,,waiting on new sensors ,,, the car when this happens jumps ,stumbles,, want run right, once we clear the code the car runs good again  .. as far as engine i beat the hell out of it and for 110,000 miles it has run great,   jim
