Remote start doesn't work. Aftermarket alternatives?

Recommended Posts

So I have a Ford 2016 Fusion SE AWD 2.0 SE that came with the Ford remote start system.  This system works like 1 out of 20-30 times, and is a pain.  I took it to a dealer twice and they said it works every time for them, they don't have anything to troubleshoot.  I tried it there, it didn't start, they looked and said "we saw it not start for you, but it starts every time for us".  I'm tired of playing with this thing and am using the Ford procedure for remote start, so I was wondering if there are any after market alternatives that people have added that work well for them, and how much work they were to install, since Ford can't seem to help.

When I try, you hear the engine try to turn over, but it fails.  On the rare occasions it has worked, I get in the car and have to insert the key as expected, but this is exceptionally rare.  I've tried both remote start key fobs that came with the vehicle with the same results.  The dealership I bought it from has gone out of business so I can't go to them, I have to go to others in my area.  I live in the North East and it would be really nice if this worked on those cold, crisp days so I can shovel my walkway while the car warms up.  Thoughts?

PS. I'm willing to try anything you can think of.  I've already been through all the car menu options and they all seem correct.  Since it works once in a while, its like it's not capable of providing ignition most of the time.

Might be time for a new 12V battery.  If you still have the original battery in there, you're well overdue.  My wife's Pacifica was doing the same thing, remote start would try and fail, even though starting it normally would work fine.  Put a new battery in there and now it works every time.
