Libert76
Hey all, My mother has a 2010 Fusion SEL and the power steering went out. Looks like its a common issue that requires a rack replacement. Unfortunately, she can't afford it. I found a used rack motor and was wondering if I just replaced that and had it flashed, if that would fix the issue? I appreciate the input. Thanks!
drolds1
Welcome to the FFF. Do you know for sure that the motor is faulty? Has it been scanned for codes? There are other possible failed components. Without a definitive answer, you could be replacing the wrong part. Even if the motor is bad, what guaranteed do you have that used one isn't as well.
WKelley
It's a shame they have built these time bombs into these cars. I'm in Canada where parts are usually 30-50% higher than the US. Changing the electric rack up here is easily $1200 after programming. I would not waste the time or money on a used rack. I definitely would not try only changing the motor, they usually fail for a reason. If you do try that you have to make certain the rack is checked for any mechanical flaws.
