2014 Fusion SE Engine Compatibility

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to upgrade the engine on my 2014 Fusion SE (currently have the 1.5L stock) and have been trying to find a suitable replacement with far better performance. As I've looked around, the 3.0L Twin Turbo Ecoboost engines in the Lincoln MKZs look like a very appealing option, especially considering the price compared to other options. Would one of these fit in my car? If so, would it massively decrease my gas mileage or would it still be manageable? If not, what are some alternatives? I'd preferably like a quieter option that still has great performance, as I'm looking to mod my car into the perfect sleeper build and I feel the volume of an engine like the 5.0 Mustang engine that went viral a while ago would ruin the subtlety I'm striving to achieve. I'm just beginning to get into car modification, so if there's a smaller change I need or should do first that'd also be great to know.

Sell the car and buy one with the engine you want.  It will be cheaper.  It would be a nightmare to install a different engine in that car.  You'd have to change every single wire, pcm, tcm, etc.   Flashing the various modules to work and work together would also take monumental amounts of work.  The days of changing engines from one car to another are long over.

Hi jsharpsteen and welcome to the Ford Fusion Forum. What WKelley stated above. It is not a feasible project. You would simply wind up with a ~4,000 pound paperweight in your garage or driveway. To save typing, the answers to all your questions, whether about the MKZ 3.0T engine, fuel mileage concerns, a 5.0L engine, etc. etc. are unfortunately all on the bad side of what you wish to hear.

If you want a faster Fusion, purchase a 2017+ Fusion Sport with the 2.7l EcoBoost engine.

Good luck.

Yep, if you're "just beginning to get into car modification" then this is a WAY, WAY over-your-head kind of project.   I agree with bbf, get yourself a 2017+ Sport and start from there.

Even if the engine swap itself weren't too hard, there's a reason Ford only sold that engine with AWD systems.
