Gear selector wheel

Recommended Posts

Okay...

my first Ford as a lifelong Dodge / Plymouth / Jeep owner

2017 Fusion gear selector wheel got stuck in Park

Happened once before and the "key bypass" trick solved it

No such luck this time

Towed  to Dealership

+$700 later it's back

New selector wheel has L (low) where the old one had S (sport)

heads up display still shows "S" when selected...

im ASSUMING in makes ZERO difference to the repair / performance ??

I figure the transmission can only "perform" within its own scope...

But I defer to this forum

What say you all ???

Hi Netjel and welcome to the Ford Fusion Forum. You are correct that it makes no difference, and "Sport" is still the operational selection. However, I would recommend stopping by the Service Department and asking why the seemingly incorrect part was installed. And also ask for the correct one to be installed now.

Let us know what they say and good luck.

Thanks for the reply

If it make no difference other than the "look" of the L where the "S" should be I'll probably leave it for now. ( Life has been a wee bit hectic of late )

I'm assuming that this selector probably belongs in Trucks / SUV's but if it has a lower fail rate it may super-cede the original part??

Again,

thanks for the reply ??

Hi Netjel. An easy way to find out (possibly) would be to Google the part number supplied on the Work Invoice. Hopefully they provided one to you.

My guess? It is the selector from a Fusion trim level that has a "L" (Low) setting instead of "S" (Sport). They should not have installed a selector from a Truck/SUV, unless it is the same part number for your particular Fusion model selector. Parts are cross referenced and supplied to the Service Department by the Parts Department according to VIN.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.
