2007 fusion sel 4 cylinder w/ 281k miles.  90% of the time when I start my car, the thermostat/climate controls are turned off instead of being at the settings I used last.  I’ve googled this issue a dozen times and it’s always pages of other issues with thermostats. Everything works fine when I turn it on.  My car just doesn’t “remember” and has it off upon start up.  Recently replaced the blower motor and resistor for other reasons. Issue still there

Hi RoadTo300k and welcome to the Ford Fusion Forum. There are many possibilities, which makes blind Internet diagnosis difficult at best.

That being said, the usual place to start is to have the battery checked for charge and health. This is because a weak battery may/will lead to the type of behavior you are describing. Modern vehicles are very battery intensive, especially on startup, due to the computer/electronic/electrical demands.

To perform a proper battery test check, it will entail a full load check (not a battery meter test alone).

In addition, how old is the battery in your vehicle? If it is more than 3-4 years old, it may be/is likely time to replace it. The higher electrical load of modern vehicle often means we do not get the battery life we used to in the "old days". Also, if you are not driving often or only taking short trips (more common nowadays, post-pandemic), it may not be enough to keep the battery charged enough, which can also lead to the sort of issues you are having.

There are often coupons for a free battery test on the Ford owner website, and also on many individual dealer websites.

A battery load test is where I would start.

Keep us updat4ed and good luck.

Hey thanks for the response.  It’s my daily driver and I’m in at least my second of not third battery since it’s started.  There’s been no changes to the electronics (new speakers, amps, etc) in over a decade.  Thought to just replace the thermostat control unit for trial and error until I saw how much they cost.
