Any problems with your Fusion yet?

You don't need to do that. The ECM already turns off the gas to the engine when your foot is not on the pedal. The only thing driving the engine at that point is gravity. In fact, I don't know if the ECM turns off the gas to the engine if you're coasting in neutral, so you may be doing more harm than good.

FYI...I connected my scangauge2 to the OBD port to check this out on my 2010 Fusion 6 speed manual. On my Tacoma truck with manual, when I lift the gas the instant MPG goes to 9999 indicating fuel shutoff. My Fusion under the same conditions DOES NOT shut off the fuel under 40 MPH when coasting in gear. It typically will read somewhere between 65-80 MPG but not 9999. I've noticed that if the car is in anything but 6th gear when I push in the clutch while coasting, the RPM hovers around 1200-1400 RPM until the car has been stopped for about 10-15 seconds and doesn't return to idle. I'm not sure if the automatics are different, but there is no complete fuel shutoff under coasting conditions in gear

According to the owner's manual, only the automatics do this (on the I4 and both V6's)

A few weeks ago at 16K miles, while on vacation the check engine light came on. Used the nav system to find the nearest Ford dealer and luckily it was at the next off-ramp. At 4:30pm on a Friday they checked it out and discovered a faulty throttle position sensor. After an hour and half and we were back on the road and performance has been fine. The symptoms initially were surging at idle and surging with cruise control at highway speeds. Later the cruise control became inoperative and the car would clunk and abruptly slow down when the gas pedal was let up gradually. Previously the car had been in for repair just before the trip at a local dealer where they flashed the engine control module. That appeared to solve the problem initially but it came back with a vengeance during the trip. At first they thought it might be tranny issues which would've involved a weeks wait for parts but then they narrowed it down to the sensor.

Thanks to Anderson Ford in Lincoln, NE for their attentive and timely service.

12,750 miles on my nearly year-old 2.5 SEL. Only issue I've noticed is very rarely, (happened three or four times) when shifting from park, the transmission can slam into gear. It's happened going into drive and reverse. Dealer says it's up to date on all TSBs and there aren't any error codes, plus it's such a sporadic event, it's impossible to replicate, so it remains a mystery. Other than that, I caused about $1100.00 in damage to the left front fascia and fender when I had a brain lapse and backed (yes... I'm aware that doesn't make any sense) into an old lady's Buick. Word to the wise: don't get too dependent on the back up camera. Your insurance company and/or your checkbook won't appreciate it.

I've had my 2010 Fusion SE FWD for 8 months now. Started with 20 miles and now I'm up to 26,000 in just a couple months. Anyhow, ever since I drove off the lot I've noticed when slowing down @ about speeds of 40mph and 20mph I experience a type of down-shift even though my vehicle is automatic. During this disturbance I see my RPMs jump a notch and then go back to normal. I've gone back once to the dealer and had to get a program upgrade for my trany pressures. This didn't get rid of the issue and the dealer states it's a normal thing. So just wanted to see if anyone else has been going through this as well or I'm I just over thinking it. I appreciate any comments or advice.

Despite being an automatic, it still has to downshift. It has to get back into 1st gear when you stop.

In addition to that, to enhance fuel economy Ford uses an aggressive fuel shutoff and TCC lockup on deceleration.

Pg. 214 of your OG:

Your vehicle has been designed to improve fuel economy by reducing fuel usage while coasting or decelerating. When you take your foot off the accelerator pedal and the vehicle begins to slow down, the torque converter clutch locks up and aggressively shuts off fuel flow to the engine while decelerating. This fuel economy benefit may be perceived as a light to medium braking sensation when removing your foot from the accelerator pedal.

Your dealer is correct.

I have also heard that "sloshing" noise since it's been cold here in Minnesota. When I leave the garage and turn from my alley to the street I hear it and it goes away by the time I make a turn in three blocks. My thought is that it's coolant in the heating system but not sure. It doesn't seem to affect anything and the heater works fine.

I realized after the original post that now that I'm using the remote start to warm the car before taking off, I don't hear the sloshing sound. I warm the car for about 5 to 8 minutes and the temp guage is just above the lowest level.

Bought a new 2012 SE, 4 cyl. near the end of Oct, 2011 and noticed the sloshing on the right front side after about a week or two of owning it. It occurs after I accelerate to approx. 15mph after a cold start (more than 4-ish hrs of non-driving), either being outside or in a non-heated but attached garage. The sound lasts for about 3 sec and isn't too loud (can be drowned out by a not-too loud radio), but can certainly be heard when the radio's off. Heat is always off when this occurs. I live in Michigan, but our fall was warm and we've only had a couple of nights below freezing (and just below 32 deg, too).

2011 Ford Fusion. I've been having the fuel inlet problem reported in the 2007 - 2010 models. Does anyone know the fix for this? is Ford going to step up and take responsiblity for it? My last 3 cars have been Fords... I puchased the Fusion because they essencially took the Taurus and made it a Crown Vic. If this crap keeps up, this may be my last Ford product.

09 Fusion SEL I4. Had to take it back 4 times to get the sunroof fixed. We had a problem with it, took it in, and within 2 weeks we returned it 3 times. They said it looked like someone tried to break into the car through the sunroof? Other than that 3 trips for the A/C not working correctly. They kept saying my wife wasn't working the a/c correctly. I brought it into my shop to check it out myself and found one of the Schrader valves to be leaking. Fixed that and refilled wit 134 and haven't had a problem since.

Other than that, regular oil changes at 5K, trans fluid changed twice, and replaced both license plate bulbs, front turn signal bulbs, 3rd brake light, and on our second set of tires. Just about to roll over 75,000 miles. Not a single motor or trans hiccup. Very pleased with the car so far. Hope to make it to 300,000+ miles.

They replaced the inlet on mine a few weeks after I bought my 2010 in 6/09. No problems since.

I got my 2010 FFH in Sept 2011, used, it had 800 miles on it and was stored in a garage for well over a year. Original owner had passed. The only problem I had with it was the MAP sensor going bad, and was probably from a spider getting in it and laying eggs. It has 38500 miles on it now, and not a single problem with it. Gets great gas mileage, got 44 in it today mostly highway and its still only 35* outside.

I have a 2013 Fusion Titanium. 5,000 miles on it and the chrome circle that frames the fog light is GONE! No signs of damage/impact. I am convinced it fell off or popped out in its own. Dealer will NOT replace it. Apparently it's my responsibility to replace car parts that randomly fly off while driving. Not covered under warranty. Part is $60. Anyone else have this problem? Go check your flood lights!

2012 Ford Fusion Sport over 20K miles no major problems, rear passenger window sticks but I don't sit there? I got a bubble in my original tire (Thanks Michigan potholes!!), no tire plan so I'll have to dish out $160 for new one! But love the car and will be ordering a 2014 Fusion Titanium come October.

2007 SE V6 92,000 km and no big problems. Got it at 60K and had to change the two plate lights (complete) because of rust, water infiltration. They arel rusting slowly but still working. The brakes had be done at 60K but with cheap sh*t so had the front redone with premium disck and semi-metallic Raybestos. What a difference! Would do that again anytime. A bit costly but worth every penny.

The tranny is a little tricky, better do a full stop before giving it gas and be light on on the gas pedal when in heavy traffic. Went to the dealer with that and the computer did not show any fault. They told me it was normal for the 5 speed auto. Takes a fair amount of gas, av 11-12 liters per 100km

Good car overall
