Hi Everyone,

I just bought a 2010 Ford Fusion I4 SEL Fwd. I'm not sure what is a good set of winter tires I should get (I was thinking Michelin tires)?

Also in terms of standard rims, does anyone also know the cost of the tires and rims (approximation that I should be expecting)? I don't want to go into a dealership and get ripped off.

Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you in advance.

I don't know if you have 16 or 17" rims, I have a sport so I am downsizing to 17" rims which were takeoff rims and basically brand new. I am putting on Michiline Xice2 tires 225-50-17. Costco and Tire Rack have good prices on winter tires but what tire you get depends on your type of driving. If you in a lot of heavy snow, you might want to get something other then the ones I got. For me I need snow tires when I go to vermont or canada where only the last 100-200 miles of a trip are in snow. Mostly my driving is in the nyc area and frankly, you don't need winter tires for this area.

In terms of cost, my tires are going to cost $141 each plus $15 for mounting. Currently if you get a number of different tires there is a $70 instant rebate so I am actually only paying about $125/tire, not bad considering that 8 years ago I got artic alpines for $99/tire + delivery and lst year my first set of Xice2 for $125/tire + shipping from tire rack. I got tpms sensors off ebay (they also came with new valve stems) for $120 and my sel 17" rims cost me $400. I believe tire rack will sell you steel rims and tires in a package with or without tpms sensors, just go to their site and you can get the prices

Hi,

I live in Vermont and just purchased a 2007 SE i-4 for my wife. After lengthy research on the internet I just ordered 4 General Altimax Artic in the orginal 16 size of 205 16R 60. This snow country up here so I want a sticky tire for the cold weather. You can also get these tires studded for $15.00 a piece extra. The Altimax is really a Gieslevad Nord 3 that is made in Germany and has a special rubber compound like the Nokians that sticks to the road in cold weather giving you better traction. This makes all the difference. My understanding is that Consumer Reports rated the General Altimax Artics in third place behind two Michelin for a lot lot less money. Tire Rack has them for $70.00 a piece. They have the snow flake symbol on them and quite a pedigree. Gieslevad brought out a new Nord Frost 5 and let General which is owned by Continental have the old Nord Frost 3's so they General would have a winner on their team. After the recent snow in New Jersey, CT and PA of late I can't wait to get them on next week. The Fusion uses a lot of Volvo technology, their air bag system and the brakes on the Fusion are right of Volvo. These tires should be the right ones for people who don't want to pay three times the amount.BTW, I own a 2001 Volvo V70 wagon (VT state car behind Suburu) and the Fusion is part Mazda and part Volvo. Nice parents don't you think?

Vermont Fusion

P.S.

I am curious to hear any stories about the Fusion in heavy snow and with what tires? I am wooried about the light four cylinder up front for traction as the 2007 has no ABS or traction control.
