2010 3.5L Engine Cover

I recently ordered an MKZ engine cover and the related pieces to install on my Fusion. The parts came in today and I just finished installing them (took 10 minutes...literally!). The cover does say Lincoln on it, but it doesn't really bother me. I've attached a pic.

If interested, you will need to order the following:

(1) 7H6Z-6A949-AA Cover (comes with the two grommets that press into the existing mounting bracket already on the car)

(1) 7T4Z-6763-BA Pipe Assy (this is the extension tube for the oil filler to make it flush with the cover)

I also picked up an MKZ cover, but got mine from a scrap yard to save some coin. I didn't want the "LINCOLN" script on my Fusion, so decided to take it off and properly decorate the cover for my Sport. Also to add some other underhood dress-up items.

Here is the cover as I got it from a scrap yard:

The Lincoln letters are raised plastic molded to the cover, so I started by sanding them off.

Then came the decision on what theme to go with. I debated doing a silver and black theme as found on the Ford Mondeo ST-220:

However, I really like the Audi RS5 V8 cover with a carbon fiber insert piece, and decided to go for that look:

The center of the MKZ cover was already delineated by a ditch, but it included a long dog-leg section on the lower right that I decided would look odd if covered in carbon fiber. So, I extended the ditch straight across to the right and wrapped it over the edge. Did the same at the upper ditch end, since it did not wrap over the edge. Then sanded the entire center section to prep for the carbon fiber overlay. Here are pix:

I went with 3M Di-Noc for the carbon fiber. I saw it being applied at the SEMA show, and it is the highest quality stuff out there. It even has the texture of carbon fiber. Here are shots with it on, and my new ditch extensions painted black to match the rest.

I added a Ford badge and a Duratec engine badge from my local scrap yard. Also picked up a billet oil cap, billet radiator cap, and billet dipstick handle to go with the new cover.

Looks very professional. You should go into business.

I'd buy one of these!!!

Seriously, you could probably make some money selling these. I really like the look of that, just not sure I'd ever make the time to do it. But I'm seriously thinking about it...

Thanks for the compliments, guys! I enjoy doing these custom mods for my cars to personalize them, but not really interested in making a side business out of it. Appreciate the thought though.

By the way, this cover now has around 5,000 miles on it through the summer heat, and the 3M carbon fiber Di-Noc has held up great. No shrinkage or peeling. In fact, the "AFTER" pix above were just taken 2 weeks ago, after that mileage was put on. I would not hesitate to use Di-Noc in other underhood areas.

GREAT WORK! I am going to try this myself and I have been looking for the "Duratec 24 Valve V6" emblem and have not been able to locate one anywhere. Can you tell me where you found yours?

There are probably over a million of these emblems sitting in junk yards on all the 3.0L Duratec Taurus' and Sables Ford made over many years. I pulled a couple off on my last trip to a Pick-it-yourself yard in Detroit and used the best one on my car. You need to pry it off carefully as it is thin aluminum and bends easily. A piece of fishing line can cut through the foam backing to get it off (as with any badge stuck on with foam adhesive).

Awesome job! My car looks identical to yours. Well, on the outside anyway. If you change your mind about producing these let me know. I'd buy it.

Identical outside? Only if you have added dark chrome upper and lower grilles and window belt moldings, tinted the front side markers and tail lamps, installed lowering springs, painted the fog lamp surrounds, and added a 3.5 badge to the rear. :headspin:

Guess my monitor doesn't pick that stuff up very well in your photo. Looks good! :drop:

Looks great! I'm salavating over these wheels I saw on ebay at US Wheel Exchange. A little pricey, but I'm thinking I might splurge when it is time for new rubber. Check out the "chromed" Fusion Sport rims http://www.uswheelex...id=16&Itemid=50

Wow! I like them, too! How much are they?

I just ordered the parts, I will just make it subtle, probably with silver center area. I will just put a chrome xr6 emblem on the black area. (the xr6 has a turbo lettering, but I will not put that, cause that would be silly. I may add the FPV oval emblem. Just like having something to make me grin when I open engine bay, I even have an FPV oval now on my Sony Nav Home screen. Cause we all know we cannot get Falcons here.

And the duratec cyclone 3.5L was the exact same engine that they were to replace the Aussie Straight 6 with for this year in the Falcon FG family along with the 4 cylinder ecoboost. But unfortunately the Aussie government wanted to keep the workers employed at Geelong so they will continue to produce Straight 6 engines till around 2016, even they have not had much in the way of emissions and fuel economy improvements.

Wow, that Di-NOC looks sweet. I wonder what it would look like if the cup holders / center console were wrapped in it?

Also, I am assuming the cover you got was off a 2010 MKZ? yeah..not gonna find one of those in a junkyard around me :hysterical2:

I realized I need the following

7T4Z-6N958-A STUD - BALL

It is not on my engine valve cover, so I had to order the ball stud to screw in so the bottom right part of the engine cover will pop in.

When I ordered the engine cover, it had all 3 insulators included (the two top rubber grommets) and the one that will take the ball stud.
