Hi,i went and bought a 2010 FFH, and waiting for delievery now (january 8th), was wondering how well it drives in the snow (i looked on yahoo auto comments) seems there is bad reviews on how well it drives in it..anybody having a hard time driving it in the snow?

I don't really know I now live on an Island in the Pacific :-P but in the frost and what not we've had it's been fine. Like any car out there it'll only preform as good as the tires will allow it. Even AWD vehicles can be a gong show if the tires suck. I drove a couple Mustangs through some really heavy snow winters In BC and with a couple sand bags and some winters all the way around I was having no issues climbing up some nasty ski mountain roads and passing FWD cars like they were standing still, which technically they were. :-D

If you live in an area where you do get a fair amount of snow or are otherwise concerned, consider losing the stock OE tires which really are crap and barely do the cars justice even on dry pavement. Upgrade to a decent all season tire or even get yourself a set of snow tires mounted on an extra set of wheels. But just upgrading your all-seasons should help quite well. OE tires that come on just about any new car are as cheap as they come and are usually worth around $60 a piece.

I had a fwd Altima and did not put winter tires on it during winter in Omaha & it drove ok. The vsc helped a lot. Just be careful and it will be fine.

Yep really depends on the snow mix and how well the roads are kept and your driving style as omelet mentions. I forgot to mention in my post above, hit Tire Rack and look around at the top rated tires for the car. I did that for my Escape and the General Grabber tires I bought were such a dramatic improvement over the factory Continentals it was a completely different vehicle and they cost 30$ per tire less.

I don't know how much you can take from this, but I have the 2010 SE and I think it handles surprisingly well. Only had the car for 2 days before I drove it between cities through a small snowstorm (southwestern Ontario). Some roads were barely visible, blowing snow everywhere, cars in the ditch. etc. ABS and traction/stability control kicked in a few times, and there was definitely a bit of lateral movement in spots, but I never lost control, even when the car in front of me was skidding around.

I'm coming from an Oldmobile with snow tires, but I still have the default tires on this baby. I'm definitely getting snow tires before next winter, but this wasn't at all as bad as I'd feared.

I have a sport so I took off the 18" tires and mounted 17" winter tires (Xice-2). So far this winter with trips to Canada and all the snow we had in NJ (including my drive up to Vermont this past friday) the car is a tank in the snow. I thought my altima se with winter tires was great in the snow, this is much better. Of course, the key is the tires and shutting off the traction control if you need to dig the tires into the snow. I found the stability control responded well. The only issue I have with winter driving is the limited space between the tires and the inside of the wheel wells. It is really tight and when that slushy road crap freezes up it is a pain.

pardon the reply more then a year later...subject is still relevant.

I'm in Germany, and in a 1/2 to a foot of snow, with all season tires (with the M+S/Mud and Snow stamp on the side wall) the 2010 Fusion handles beautifully. the front wheel drive will pull you out of the snow (unless its performing well, you can take off the auto traction control to dig you out of a deeper stick) the traction control works well in almost all slick areas I've been on. only the deeper drifts do i turn off the stability control.

whenever you make a stop, say to park or take a rest form the road, be sure to knock out the accumulated snow from the wheel wells. this will prevent the road slush from freezing as fast....otherwise it can suck, lol.

example pic from a mid day wipe down of my fusion... usually have to wipe her off 2-3 times a day when it snows ^_^ I'm not complaining!

First winter with my Fusion, and she handles just fine in the snow, as long as you drive sensibly...(easy on the gas on start-ups at a slushy intersection, etc.). I still have the stock Michelin's on, (with no intentions of swapping tires in the near future), and they seem to get the job done just fine. Had another 5" of the white stuff for the drive home from work, and nary a problem on mediocre city streets or decently plowed highways.

Milan owner here, 2010 Premier with 3.0 V6 (2WD) and stock Michelins. Travel for work with this car and have been throughout New England and Maine this winter in the white stuff with no problems. I actually like the performance of the stock tires and feel they did just fine. No complaints!

Just fine here as well. If you must go through any snow (even 1-2 in) at all though then you will definitely need to invest in snow chains if you have to go up any hills or inclines. The car is just so lightweight that you can't get any traction in those situations.

Tire chains for 1-2" of snow?? You're exaggerating, right? No offense, but unless that is an extremely moist 1-2" on top of glare ice, I think you must have a typo there. While I wasn't anywhere near the posted speed limit, I've always had uphill traction with this car without chains. Buying tire chains never even crossed my mind, even when I was driving my 7 y/o Focus sedan. I don't know what kind of hill (mountain?) you may be trying to climb or how you're attempting to do it, but I am still scratching my head as to not having any traction. :headscratch:
