fusion faster than prelude?

Recommended Posts

my cousin insists that his 1999 honda prelude is faster than my 2010 ford fusion (4cyl). which car is faster?

If the Prelude is in decent shape, it's faster. It's also a helluva lot lighter than the Fusion. It makes 200hp, and 156lb/ft of torque. Sorry.

The Fusion is a much nicer car though, hands down.

Don't underestimate the Prelude. When new, tests show it ran the quarter mile in 15.4 and 0-60 in 6.8. I don't know how this compares with the Fusion 4cyl, but Car and Driver tested a Sport AWD at 15.2 and 6.7.

Motor trend ran a 2010 Fusion to 16.0 in the 1/4 and 8.2 0-60 with the 4cyl manual trans. I dont see a 4cyl Fusion taking a Prelude. I remember back in the late 90's when the ricers were at the peak of popularity, the Prelude was the car to beat among the Honda's. Now a V-6 accord is what the Prelude was.

Back in the mid 90's, I had a SHO Taurus AT. My brother-in-law kept up pretty good in his Accord. I was surprised. But he was surprised when I took him.

BTW, my new 06 reminds my very much of that SHO!

A tune and a turbo in the Sport, and it would be serious competition for any of the cars out there short of a Vette or seriously hopped up Stang. As soon as the weather clears up(read as Spring) I plan to go up against my father in laws S600 Mercedes. I drove it, and I think I can keep up with him.

I sent my buddy a couple of pics of my Fusion. What do you think he did? He went out and bought a new '10 Mazda6! Totally loaded. 272 HP. I'm hoping that with a tune and Magnaflows I'll be able to keep up with him. That dirty rat! Any way, my Fusion has been mistaken many times already for "new" AND I paid less than half as much for it.

That Mercedes is over 1000lbs lighter, and almost 400hp...Can't any of these threads stay real? You will get embarrassed by the S600. There was another thread where some guy was saying his stock 06 SEL would eat a Mustang GT, too. He claimed his SEL went over 140mph, also.

Keep it real people...

He said S600 - NOT SL600.

S600 = 4950 lbs, twin turbo 5.5L V12, 510 hp, 612 lb ft

LOL yourself, its a 2001 non turbo model, 367 HP. Run the numbers Wt vs HP, the Sport has more HP per LB than the Mercedes! Now that deserves a LOL. :headspin:

  • 6.0L V12, 36 valves, 362 hp @ 5500 rpm
  • 5 speed automatic transmission
  • 15 mpg city / 23 mpg hwy
  • Curb Weight 4630

12.62 HP per Pound

Fusion Sport

  • 3.5L V6, 263 HP
  • 6 speed automatic transmission
  • Curb Weight 3591

13.65 HP per Pound

Getting it to the ground is the key, all depends on gearing, Powertrain losses, and tire grip.

Well shit, my fusion will dust a Ferrari...a 246 Dino...If it's the V6 version... However, you're making a huge mistake by looking at the HP rating, so go on and get your butt spanked. You would be well advised to take a look at the torque rating of the Mercedes V-12, as that's what is going to leave you embarrassed. Torque is what gets you off the line, and makes you move.

Is it just me , but I thought it was pounds per HP, not the other way around. Higher numbers make it worse , not better.

It's the power to weight ratio, expressed as hp/lb. Higher numbers are better. Of course you can do it either way but power to weight is the standard.

Have fun but don't bet any serious money. A stock 2001 S600 does 0-6 in 5.4 seconds and the 1/4 mile in 13.9! Remember: Horsepower sells cars but Torque gets you going.

That's all it would be for, is to have fun. Sad part is he paid less for that car than I did for the Fusion, and there was nothing wrong with it when he bought it. :banghead:

He may have paid less initially but wait until he has repair bills. Mercedes are not cheap to keep.

LOL I know, he broke down not too long ago, car totally died, no power, alternator went. He had an extended warranty on it so the repairs were covered, just before it ran out though. There was also an oil line leaking, between the heads, which required removal of nearly everything on top to get to it. The bill came to over $5K. The alternator alone was $1500.
