Hi,

Have a squealing noise intermitently coming from alternator area of engine bay. Tried to put a screwdriver on alternator to check sound but next to exhaust manifold so it is difficult.

Wil be going to the dealer next week - any ideas - any others had this?

I have a video/audio of this. How do I upload the .avi file?

Hi Macpark,

Have you solved this problem yet? I think I just got a similar problem here. Yesterday morning I was driving my 07 FF 2.3L manual to work, I braked kinda hard before one intersection, right after the hard-stop, I noticed that there is some kinda whining noise from the engine bay. I noticed the noise seems to happen under heavy braking or steering.

Have you discovered what's the cause to this issue? Steering fluid or the belt is loose? Thank you very much for your help!

At 38,000 miles mine started doing this too 2.5L I4 manual tranny. It goes in the shop next week to be looked at. Taking it to a local shop not ford as those guys want 97 dolars an hour labor since it is out of warranty. The sound can best be described as a belt whine. Sounds liek the belt is too tight that gets higher pitched as the engine RPM goes up. At idle the whine is not heard. Shop beleives it may be the alternator bearing on the pully. I'm hopin gits just a bad belt tensioner pully. Goes int he shop in a week will update when I find the answer. I bet this will be a common problem since it is hapening so soon as the car is not even a year old yet.

Replace the belt tension pulley first. My 2010 fusion only has 18,000 miles on it and it started to make a whine noise. I took it to my SM and before he even checked the noise he said it was the pulley. I told me they keep extra in stock. Sounds like it is a common problem. Start with the easy cheap fix and don't get sucked into the transmission place for big $$$.

What ended up being the problem with your car? I have a 2010 ford fusion and I am getting a faint whinning noise from the engine bay, and I've already changed the idler pulley

I, too, have a 2010 FF SE and it has a whine under acceleration. it's pretty loud and annoying. 2010FF, did you replace the idler pulley yourself or was it covered under warranty.

i found this http://www.fordfusionclub.com/index.php?topic=191826.0 and it seems to lead to a similar conclusion.

might it be covered under the power train warranty?

Hello all. I have had an intermittent whine from my 2010 3.0 SEL which I thought might be a bad serpentine belt. I decided to take off the belt and see if it was one of the pulleys. All of them spun nicely except when I got to the alternator it had a slight chirp as the pulley rotated. My car has 85,000 on it and it came from New York (I'm in Florida) so there is a good deal of undercarriage rust on the car, mainly on the surface. I suspect this to be the reason for the premature failure of the alternator bearing. Hope this helps you guys.

Your troubleshooting insight on the intermittent whine in your 2010 3.0 SEL is valuable. The observation of rust and its potential impact on premature alternator bearing failure is a crucial point. Consider having the alternator inspected or replaced, considering the rust's effect. Thanks for sharing your experience!Gb Whatsapp download
