It's on my car, visible for anyone to see on the highway. Not like I have my telephone number on my rear window or something. Besides, I paid extra for my plates. There is a difference between having it visible to people in your home town or who you drive by on the streets versus showing it to potentially millions of people on an internet site, especially if you were to get into a heated argument with someone online. You don't want them being able to track you down physically. And B ) If you don't know their name, all it takes is knowing their plate to get their name, and subsequently all the other mentioned information. And if they're not in the secretary of state/national database, google can pull up many skeletons. Its more so a personal preference for many I'm sure, but on the other hand, it adds just a tiny bit of privacy in the event that someone e-rages and knows a cop that can pull up the information. Yes it's illegal to disseminate any confidential information to the public, but I've witnessed it over and over. People have even been fired for looking into silly matters such as running daughter's boyfriend(s), etc.... This is very true.... however on the upside if you tick someone off, most of the time you escape without them even bothering or getting to see your license plate. They just cuss out the window or try to rear-end you. Also, if they do get your plate and call 911, the caller usually always wants to remain "anonymous", which means its a "Make your own case" and if you see a squad pull up behind you, well..... most people start driving properly, lol And the officer drives off because theres no signed complainant, no visible reckless driving, and thus, no probable cause for you to be pulled over. (They will run your plate while they're behind you though, so probably shouldn't drive like an ass if your vehicle registration or driver's license is suspended, revoked, etc... lol) Anyways, guess my main point is its much harder to get someones license plate when they're flying away from you, versus it sitting online ready to print, email, send, etc... Its all very situational, and entirely up to each own's preferences. If I had a nice vanity plate I wouldn't mind posting it online, but not while it was on my main vehicle I use every day, lol Ya never know what some crazy people will do with someone elses information.
