Fusion Team
Sneak peak at Ford's next Fusion? Ford Fusion Forum - It’s no secret that the next Ford Fusion will be built on the same global platform as the next fully re-designed European Mondeo, and now Ford has taken the wraps off of its refreshed Mondeo, possibly giving us our best indication yet of where the next Fusion will derive its styling from. Leftlane had previously offered our take on what a four-door coupe Mondeo would look like, which has turned out to be fairly accurate in several regards to the actual model. In addition to the Mondeo four-door coupe – intended to compete with the Volkswagen CC – Ford also revealed an updated sedan and wagon. In the U.S. the car that is closest in size and function to Europe’s Mondeo is the Fusion, which is currently only offered in sedan form. With the complete re-design expected to arrive in 2012, and the kinetic design language receiving positive praises in the new Fiesta and upcoming Focus, it would only make sense for Ford to continue this design language into the next global Fusion-Mondeo. If that is the case, will the U.S. be receiving a four-door coupe Fusion? A five-door wagon? Only time will tell, but the business case may not be too far fetched to make, particularly with other automaker expanding their midsize sedan nameplates to include variations as as the Accord two-door coupe or Accord Crosstour. Ford has planned the complete and official reveal for the 2010 Moscow Show on August 25, with sales expected to begin in September 2010. For now, we have information outlining several changes to the lineup ranging from cosmetic to powertrains details. READ MORE HERE
xmech2k
OMG! It's a supersized Fiesta! Even come's in kinda-hatchback and wagon versions! I'm underwhelmed. It was a matter of love at first sight for me & the 2010 Fusion(And she survived the 'background check'), and while this Mondeo looks OK, it's just not the same. Kind of seen it already?
Sangria6MT
Front end looks like a Subaru, rear like a Mazda 3; Not sure what I think of it, I'd have to see it close up. Appears as if the large trunk may be gone!
akirby
Front end looks like a Subaru, rear like a Mazda 3; Not sure what I think of it, I'd have to see it close up. Appears as if the large trunk may be gone! This is just a refresh of the current Mondeo that's been sold in Europe for years. Doubtful that this has anything to do with the new global CD4 that will replace both the Fusion and Mondeo. Don't believe everything you read (or anything that leftlane news publishes).
2010SEL
The wagon does look slick. But really, the rest of them all look like big Subarus to me. Very generic-looking cars.
roblax13
I think the same design as the 2010 but with a few tweaks to the headlights would be fine.
clawgrip
Personally, I like the more traditional sedan styling of the current day Fusion. This design seems to be closer to a hatchback with one continuous curve line from the start of the windshield to the end of the trunk. Hatchbacks always remind me of giving up the trunk and needing to fold down the rear seat to get anything in the vehicle.
tonifan
What's confusing here is the fact that the Mondeo was supposedly the platform on which the Ford Taurus was formulated. I realize that, in fact, the Taurus was actually based on the same platform as the Lincoln MKS, which was based on the Volvo S80 platform. Therefore, how could a next-generation Fusion (which is based on the Mazda6) be based on a platform so similar to the Mondeo, which is a much, much larger car than the Fusion, and nearly the same size as the Taurus. Any thoughts?

Any thoughts? You're mistaken. The Mondeo is built on the EUCD chassis while the Fusion is on CD3. They are both CD sized platforms. Taurus and MKS are on D3 or D4 depending on how you count the chassis upgrades for ecoboost. Mondeo and Fusion are the same size. Taurus and MKS are larger.
tonifan
Thanks for the correction! I've heard the song "Mondeo Man" from Britain, and I assumed since the Mondeo is one of the most popular cars in England, if not THE most popular selling car in the UK, that it was the same body as the Taurus because when "sneak" photos of the mockups of the new Taurus first surfaced, they had comparison pix of the Mondeo, and had speculated that the new Taurus would be an American version of that same car. So many cars, so many choices! Again, thanks for the accurate info.

awdpath
The Mondeo's front suspension is of MacPherson strut types. The current "North American" Fusion 's SLA front suspension is technically superior ( and actually more expensive to make!). autoxr1
Holy crap, I'm sure glad I have a 2011 Sport on order!!! Wow, talk about reviving an old thread . . . As was pointed out last year, the Fusion and Mondeo will both be new when the common platform replacement comes out. And the styling looks little like the present Mondeo referenced in that article. For a hint at where it's going, just look at the new 2012 Focus Electric with front styling clearly inspired by Aston Martin (not a bad thing!).
