So, what car did you part with to get your Fusion?

Past Toyota Camry lover ( Had 4- ALL No Problems)- traded '05 Camry LE w/ 89k ( no problems- avg'd 29mpg) on my '10 Fusion Hybrid, now have 8900mi - avging 37.6 long term.

 

Bought the Fusion on Ford X-plan (what a deal :) '10 FFH, 502A loaded, Ice Blue- Love the car :)

'08 Malibu LS (4-cylinder base model) swapped for a used '10 Milan Premier V6 FWD in Smokestone with the two-tone Medium Stone leather and the "moon and tune" package with Sony 12-speaker sound system. My daughter has named the car Camille, because is sounds like "chameleon" - the Smokestone paint seems to shift colors as the sun goes down.

 

After I injured my back, I needed better seats - even the seats in upper Malibu trim levels didn't fit me quite right. The Malibu was my first Chevy after a long line of Ford products with a couple of Subarus mixed in. It wasn't bad, but it's also not anywhere close to being a "drivers car". Driving the Malibu is as bland as plain oatmeal. I'm not saying it's unpleasant, just that it's boring, in a sort of smooth and squishy magic carpet sort of way.

 

The Milan is really a much nicer car in my opinion. It just "feels" better overall. It's easier to see out of, and therefore parking is less of a chore (even though both have the high rear deck, the Milan has a lower beltline and better overall visibility). The steering (electric in both) has better feedback in the Ford product. In the Chevy, any trip more than two hours and my hands would hurt - it was weird, but I could never get a really comfortable grip. And the door panel armrests in the Chevy were hard plastic - on one trip, I ended up rubbing through half the skin on my elbow. The headlamps in the Milan also seem better than in the Malibu, with a better beam pattern.

 

I found the seats in the Fusion/Milan to be a much nicer fit, and with the knowledge of what to look for from this board (transmission issue) I shopped for a couple of weeks, test drove 8 different cars (both Fusions and Malibus) until I found "the one". It ran and shifted perfectly (it had the valve body and clutch packs replaced before I bought it), and equally important the color scheme pleased my better half.

 

Switching from the porky Chevy with the inline 4 to the Milans 240 hp Duratec is a real pleasure, and after two weeks I'm seeing I only gave up a little in MPG, I'm seeing 24.6 on the console, and in the Chevy I consistently got between 25 and 27 MPG. My commute is a mixed mode, mostly surface streets at 45-50 MPH with a short daily run at up to 65. I don't hypermile but I don't drive aggressively either, and I use the cruise control on regular stretches. I did test some 4 cylinder Fusions and Milans, and they also were more responsive than the Chevy.

 

Initially the Chevy impressed as quiet, but the Milan with the 6 is even more so. I tested a couple of the 4 cylinder models and found the valvetrain noise obtrusive and out of place in the Fusion/Milan - the rest of the car is so well refined it stood out to me. I was still considering a 4 cylinder model but finding the one I bought at the right price tipped me to the V6.

 

It's definitely a worthy successor to our venerable '00 Sable Premier, which is now an old and sad looking college kids car but still runs well and has a rocking stereo.

 

I look forward to my daily drive now, and upon arriving I get out of that comfy heated seat after an hours drive and my back doesn't hurt a bit.

I traded off my 07 Ford Focus with 22k miles for a 2011 Fusion SE

What I miss: Nothing I can think of, it was a great car But to small for my needs.

What I love: Bigger car and still getting about the same mileage

What I can't live without. A true manual transmission.

I still have my old car, a 2003 Chev Impala base model with 120,000 klms (about 74,500 miles). Trying desperately to unload it, as mechanics who have worked on the car tell me the heads are bad and the wiring harnesses are badly corroded. I purchased a second hand 2010 Fusion SE almost two months ago.

 

Things I miss:

Automatic headlights

Smoother ride

Acceleration

 

Things I don't miss:

Passlock Security issue - sometimes car will not start

Weak heads - pulls valve studs right out

Paying a small fortune to get this POS fixed every six months

1998 Chevy Lumina LTZ 3.8L V6, which I bought brand new and sold with 290,000 miles. It was still a good runner--the 3800 engine was the best one GM ever made--but it was just time since I need a car absolutely reliable for work and repairs were on the increase as you would expect for a car of this age. New car is a 2011 SEL with 2.5L. I was underwhelmed by the current GM lineup so made the switch to Ford. I also much prefer the Ford Sync system to GM's Onstar. The Fusion is well designed all around and a perfect fit for our family's needs. The 2.5L with 6-speed auto is the only 4-cyl automatic of the cars I tested that I felt delivered adequate performance, and one of my goals was better gas mileage due to my long commute.

 

What I'll miss - Head room, low end torque

What I won't miss - battery under the washer fluid tank

What I can't live without now - Sunroof, in-dash navigation, Sirius travel link

Just picked up 2011 SEL today for my wife. She has only put about 25 miles on it so far.

Her last car(my new car now) is a 2004 GrandPrix GTP Comp G

What she already misses from the GTP:

the heads up display.

the torque of a supercharged engine

 

 

 

What she likes so for is:

remote start

Mood lighting

heated mirrors

sync

auto dimming rearview mirror

sound system(it kills the monsoon system in the gtp)

The smooth ride.

And of course the new car smell.

 

What I like about it so far is

I'll let you know when I get to drive it. :shift:

I had 310,000 troublefree miles on the Mystique, and wanted to stay in the Ford family. With 2010 supposedly being the last of the Mercuries, I thought it would be nice to have one of the last off the production line. This is my fourth Mercury and my tenth Ford product.

 

I love the build quality of the Milan, the gas mileage (currently averaging 34 MPG), and the features such as Sirrus, sunroof, and four-wheel disc brakes, as well as the overall luxuriousness. I also have Sync, but since I'm an "old guy" who doesn't use cell phones or i-pods, I would rather have gotten the remote start option and given up Sync, but it was bundled with the sunroof.

 

 

If you got 300,000 out a Mistique (one of the worst cars Ford ever built with literally 30 - 40 recalls) then you'll have the Milan FOREVER!

 

You can have your dealer add remote start for $300 (or less).

What I miss

* Sunroof / Moonroof

* Leather (chose not to get it on my Fusion)

 

What I don't miss

* Coupe body style

* Tiny back seat

* Small trunk

* Brake repair costs that were avoided when the tranny went out

 

You can add leather for about $1000 and a huge double moonroof for about $1300 if you miss them that bad.

What I miss

Had a rod shifter linkage instead of a cable shifter ala Fusion. (Snapped a cable shifter in an SHO before, not fun)

40+MPG

The fact that the vehicle would have been paid off years ago versus still 12 months out with FMCC still...

 

What I don't miss

Not a very good looking vehicle

Not having a trunk release button inside. You had to open the trunk with the key!

Did not have remote keyless entry (FOB).

End of lease on 2008 Black / Black Fusion SE.

13,800 trouble free miles.

 

Leased a 2011 Red Candy Sport with the 401a option With the red accents in the interior and with pinstripes :)

Payments the same

 

What I don't miss:

 

The hunk of wiring crap hanging out the bottom of the steering column.

The insentient beeping if a door is ajar.

The nasty rattle of the sunroof slider.

The Airbag warning light going off at -25 degrees.

What I love:

 

The color

The Interior

The exterior sport bits, grill, side trim

The additional power

The handling

The seats

Etc....

 

Yes, a great car!

Hope they don't screw up the 2013, really want a SVT 2013 Fusion :happy feet:

Traded in our 2010 (yup I said 2010) Nissan armada fully loaded, beautiful. For a 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid

 

What I don't miss:

 

The pain watching it fill up at the gas station and empty my bank account

The auto lift gate

Push button start

The ability to tow things

Space!

 

What I love about my FFH

 

Sync system

The navigation by Ford is superior to Nissan's

 

Everything I have in this car, I had in the other. The main reason for trading was fuel efficiency. My armada was paid off, so I actually made money from the deal, I love this car and would do it again anyday!

Following in pbthies' footsteps, here's my car progression through the years:

 

'92 Plymouth Acclaim > '98 Ford Ranger XLT > '04 Ford Focus SVT > '06 Jeep Wrangler X > '09 Dodge Caliber SXT > '11 Ford Fusion SE

 

I won't bore you with why I moved on from each car, so here's my miss/don't miss list from my recent vehicles.

 

 

What I'll miss from the Caliber:

Moonroof, and that's a kinda/sorta thing. I only opened it a few times, but most of the time I would at least have it cracked

Outside Temp readout

Fuel Economy

White gauges (That love carries over from my SVT Focus)

 

What I won't miss from the Caliber:

CVT

4-cyl engine

The curse of my Caliber. In a 6 month period I had a cable snap off a parking garage and scratch my car, had my car broken into, and got into an accident.

Rear seating was a little cramped

 

What I love about my Fusion:

SYNC

V6

6-speed tranny w/ selectshift

Dual exhaust

Automatic lights

 

 

I've only had the car for a day, so I'm sure I'll find more things to love about this ride!

Traded a 2009 Camry Hybrid for the 2010 Sport.

 

what I miss on the Camry, hmmmm wow, after 17 months, I don't remember anything about that car that I liked. OK, well maybe 38 MPG, but that's about it. Then again were I into getting a car to get good MPG, I would have the FFH instead of the Sport.

 

What do I like about the Sport?

Everything!

 

 

Would I get another? Hellyeah!

 

Hands down the Fusion swamps the Camry in every aspect. Interior, Exterior, HANDLING, ride, comfort, and I can drive at night in the fog without having to turn off the dash.
