external temperature reading

It just dawned on me, I think a bigger issue along this train of thought, is the fuel tank capacity. Off the top of my head, I think the non-AWD (2010) models claim to have an 18.5 gallon tank. I have run my tank down to where the computer tells me something like 30 miles to go or maybe it was even less, and I don't think I've ever put more than 14.5 gallons in it. I thought maybe my car got an AWD tank in it by accident or something and asked on the forums. People have told me Ford does it on purpose so you don't let the pump run dry, or to help you not run out of gas. I think this is way more important than an OAT gauge, as it really affects the range and use of your vehicle. But I just have to accept this is what it comes with. Not a huge deal, it still goes plenty far, just it doesn't appear to be what they said it was. Never did bother the dealership or Ford about it. Wonder what they would say.

My experience with a variety of Ford vehicles that have had mileage displays is that there is normally 1-1/2 to 2 gallons left when the Distance to Empty reads '0'.

That's along the lines of what I've heard. I guess that sounds like what I'm experiencing, but 3 gallons.

Looked again, and Ford site says 17.5 g for FWD, 16.5g for AWD. Still, a 2 gallon discrepancy assuming 1 gallon 'reserve'. I once ran my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee down to 0 miles to go (By accident, and I hit the gas station 1/4 mile after it reached 0) and it took 19 gallons to fill an 18.5 gallon tank... I guess it's just 2 ways of thinking about it. I'd rather know exactly how much fuel I have left than keep carrying around 2 gallons of something I'll never use. That could be 60 miles or more depending on the conditions.

My rant was warranted. Went to dealer with all my info and we pulled out Ford dealer books and external temperature is indicated as feature, no mention you have to have auto climate control. I spent 3 hrs with dealer and they agreed (finally,) there is no mention you have to have auto climate control. My great dealer had their lead tech attempt to put in a temp sensor, which is behind bumper on passenger side, and activate it via computer, no luck. The tech and myself looked at the wiring diagram and while the components are there, the computer boards are different for manual and auto and for that reason we cannot have external temp reading. The tech agreed this is a Ford enginering mistake for such a simple issue, however, he had no answer at this time to fix our issue as Ford did not make a fix without all new climate control boards. I would like to see Ford address this issue and come up with a solution, I won't hold my breath. So, for all the build date bs and exuses, along with very unsupportive forum member comments,(employed by Ford??) being thrown at proud Sport owners, you have a legitimate claim to have all the standard features you should have and Ford needs to address and fix. I want to be Blue Oval proud and with others with this issue, if we work together, maybe, Ford will come up with a no cost fix.

Man,.. I see you live in McKinney. I live in Mesquite, so there aint but 30 or 40 so miles separating us. I'll be willin' to bet ya that if you roll down your window and wait 2.2 seconds you'll realize that it's HOT! Damn HOT, and that you REALLY DON'T need an "onboard weatherman" to tell ya to roll up the glass and turn on that awesome FORD air conditioning!!!!!:finger: As for being Blue Oval proud,.. I've NEVER bought anything from Chevrolet OR Chrysler in the past. Nor will I in the future! Especially when I became an unwilling owner of their respective turd manufacturing plants and advertising spoofs by mere proxy of being a taxpayer!! Enough said? I'm just NOT real sure why you mentioned the "government" paying Ford...for...something? That ,was you, wasn't it? I have the automatic transmission in my Sport, with NO dual climate control or other "electronic" package as "standard OR optional" equipment, surprising to say, I too have no "external tempuature readout" on display in or around my dash area! I had one of those in my 2001 Lariat Crew Cab 4x4 dually. It lasted about three years before it succumbed to the Texas heat you so  wish to chronicle! Chill brother! Like Papaw said-"Don't sweat the petty sh$t .....and don't pet the sweaty sh$t!":baby: By the way, did you EVER stop to think that any OR ALL of these "brochures" might have been farmed off to Shrelanka, or East Jesus, Uganda someplace for printing AND proof-reading?That's 'bout all I got to say 'bout that.

Mine says it's a 17.5 gallon tank as well. Those onboard "detective" readouts are just there to give you something to do with your hands, besides sharpening your chin! I don't believe that I average 16.3 MPG ALL the time. No more than I believe that the stupid "miles to empty" gremlin knows crap about my right foot!! I HAVE driven my Sport to well past the "0 miles to empty " lie on the readout. I mean, something north of 30 miles past it. So...yep, I think Ford just don't want ya settin' on the side of the road makin' their cars look all shitty sittin' there with the hood up and stuff! What do Y'all think? It's just as easy to keep 'em full as it is to run 'em empty.
